Not to mention the very shady circumstances in which he left... hasn’t exactly done wonders with Freo either

Def a pass from me

IMO GT had the right idea (not saying he should come back) but you should always aim to continue developing for the future even whilst pushing finals/aiming for the big one.
Lyon has too much of a sacrifice tomorrow for today mentality
If RL hadn't lost 3 of his key players in as matter of weeks his team would be top 4 and in the flag discussion for 2019. He will take the list to a flag for sure. He is coaching very very well and has add the opportunity to develop a team from the ground up and has also developed the offensive side to his game plan.

Take the jilted lover emotion out of it and you see it differently.
Not a jilted lover at all - I always felt he was overrated... was quite happy to see him go

It was arguably the best list in the club’s history. Assembled and developed by someone else, I might add.
Disagree totally on the list comment, GT had the best list assembled in my time watching the Saints by a country mile.

Somehow, posters on this site seems to think or perpetuate GT made it to 2 x Prelims with a bunch of 18 & 19 YO kids (not suggesting you are one of them), when this was not the case at all. GT had a far superior list than Lyon inherited.

By the time Lyon took over most media and many, many fans including lots on this site thought it was rebuild time not an opportunity to have a tilt at a flag.

We can agree to disagree on that Joffa.

the fact is the core of that team - Riewoldt, Hayes, Dal, BJ, Kosi, Milne, Blake and others - was in its prime under Lyin’
Fair argument and some definite merit in those points.

My opinion is based around Riewoldt & Ball AA under GT , Hayes 25 YO captain, Milne and a maturing Dal, Joey & very young BJ were supporting Hammill, Gehrig, Jones, Harvey, Hudgton who were guns and the mid range players like Black, Voss, Peckett, Guerra, Powell etc were superior to the bottom 6 or 8 Lyon had to field.

I don't care if he's Satan -- he's got a good footy brain and we played some of our best footy under him.

Would love to see the same intensity back at the club.

But I prefer others, starting with Ratts.

Kossie & Hamil spring to mind, who else didn't play in the prelim that could have bridged a 5 or 6 goal gap?

I was at the match, I remember we got smashed in the last 1/4 and lost by 5 or 6 goals after being up at half and three quarter time (from memory).

I also remember a lot of soft tissue injuries at the time but cant recall if they were related or impact in juries such as Hamil.

Hamill.
Sam Fisher.
Peckett.
Kosi.
Penny.

There was 1 or 2 more too I think.

What made it worse really, was that Sydney were unchanged for 8 weeks straight leading in to the GF.

I went that night dreading it. I was staggered we were in the game at 3/4 time given the players missing and the injuries others carried into that game.

Then there was the third-quarter Goose injury

Obviously Penny, number 1 defender who was out all season and quit the game. Sam Fisher got injured in the final vs Adel, , Hudghton was injured and out for the QF and came back for the PF underdone, Maguire the same. Our backline was the walking wounded.

Matthew Ferguson and a 19yo James Gwilt were in the side. Brendon Goddard and Aaron Flora also came into the PF side. Hamill got injured, Kosi was out for the season, after exploding midyear with 20 goals in 5 games playing in the ruck and CHF in Rooeys absence.

Oh, and Lyon is a great match day coach. But, it’s a no from me. He left the club in poor shape, didn’t develop and left under ordinary circumstances.

He wanted out.

So he can rot in Fremantle

We got killed in the clearances from memory. They were just too good.

Not really, we were leading at three quarter time by a goal

They ran all over us in the last Q. We had 1 fit player on the bench

Which was better than 06 final, when we had no fit players on the bench and got run over again

Cain Ackland got slaughtered in the ruck in the last. Aussie Jones let Schneider run amok etc.

RL is better than BR.

If he's available you have to put your sookyness to one side. Otherwise you have to remove yourself from all future adult coach conversations.

The only lyon coming back is the remake of the movie. He left us on the nose and he Freo fans want him out. For a guy that has been doing the same job for a long long time he is hardly moving with the times or showing exceptional results. Used car salesman and Freo bought the lemon.

we not only had no fit players on the bench, we were one short on the ground too

remember Gehrig trying to stay in the square after tearing his hamstring or similar'ish injury. Guy couldn't even walk

Nick Riewoldt on the board and Ross Lyon with Lenny Hayes coaching the midfield sounds alright to me.

you kidding me! Any coach could have won a flag with that team we had back then. Also he lost all three GF games, he had three chances to win them and failed.

GT helped Lyon. Those players were good little GT Boy Scouts turning into GTMarines by the time Lyon got them, I think it got technical in ‘07 and slowed down the mojo, then good to go like a rocket.
Penny was a mystery to my interest was patchy. Why did he go so early?

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Rumours surrounding Lyon coming to Saints.

Please no.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.
