Re: Saints watching Goldstein
What about getting Jarryd Roughead for 1-2 years similar to how Brisbane have got their on field coach in Luke Hodge? If Roughy doesn't cost anything we can still draft a tall kid.Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 2:49pm Hope this is a baseless rumour, because going after Goldstein is pointless and stupid. Why on earth would we?
Why wouldn't we continue developing Marshall? Playing Goldstein and Marshall in the same team is a fantasy, it wouldn't work.
I know as a Free Agent Goldstein won't cost anything trade wise, but how much is he going to expect to be paid? Do you want to pay him that to (hopefully) ruck for Sandy as a back up for Marshall?
Better off keeping Longer and drafting a kid.
I have a feeling that the club heirachy has overuled Richo on Longer and it seems Billy won't get any more senior games (unless Marshall gets injured I suppose). Last year they did the same thing to guys like Freeman. Once they made their mind up that he was getting delisted, he had no more opportunity in the seniors
If we were prepared to play Paddy at FF why not get Roughead (at least Roughy can go in the middle as ruck rover) and also offer him a position as an assistant coach at the end of his playing days. If Ratten becomes our senior coach they should already have a strong relationship because Ratts was their midfield coach during their threepeat.

living with the Zebs, we don't really have old n wise heads on field.
Geary has the skills of an Auskick kid, although he seems to lead, but he's cooked now.
Ross gets to "lead" only because he gets big numbers but I don't see him as an on-field leader.
Stuv is in limbo, and was allegedly a bit too quiet.
So getting in the Ranga could be perfect, as I think he is more of a leader than any of our guys I mentioned above,
plus he has a few trophies as well.

Why not get Roughie?
1/
Because in 2020 they need to be getting games into King.
2/
Roughie is just about cooked.

North get a new coach next year, he may want to stay.
My tip would be he would go to a contender as a top up....maybe GWS
If he wants money and career extender...Carlton

Re: Saints watching Goldstein
I get what your saying and agree with the general idea but you’re overlooking a simple principle... and that is that we quite literally have no alternative or back up to Marshall.ListManager wrote: ↑Fri 07 Jun 2019 7:36am If we were a top 4 side this year then I could understand the thinking behind Goldstein.
And he’d walk as a FA.
If we get Goldy, delist Longer and possibly draft another ruck... (later pick) then our ruck stocks are automatically x1000 times better than they are now.
Also gives you the option of playing Marshall as a forward at times giving us the extra tall forward that everyone but Richo sees we need, and almost guarantees that if King plays next season, he plays as a forward not forward + relief ruck
What’s the downside
