Re: Saints Back in for Dusty
There is no way the club will risk imploding over a Richmond player.
I hope.
I hope.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Saints Back in for Dusty
Do people on here really think players like Kelly or Dusty are interested in a move to St Kilda?
Kelly is at a great club with years of winning to come and likely an illusive GF win.
He is on OK money but not crazy money.
Dusty would want the $ possibly more than Kelly but why leave a team that is finally in contention for a team that is no where near contention and facts are we really don't know if we will be? We hope too but is that easy to sell to a mega star?
Can we match North's big dollar deals? Why would we?
To me it seems we think because we have to first round picks we are a destination club. I had two mates really question me why we are a destination for anyone trading in! There is nothing I can say!
I said well maybe they have old mates playing at Saints ( umm very lame)...then I said we have a great up and coming group of young players...but so do Essendon, Bulldogs, Hawthorn, Carlton, Brisbane, Melbourne and so forth...wait I know! We have Alan Richardson! Of course one of me mates is a jerk and said name a rising star let's check his progress...well the truth is we are Saints see it but it has not yet truly translated to the field as predominately.
I think everyone should leave and come to St Kilda because we are the greatest club ever but it seems not too many other takers out there.

Really? In last weeks side we had Steele, Roberton, Longer, Bruce, Savage, Weller, Brown and Membrey. All except for Weller have been good contributors for us this year. Membrey, Steele Bruce and Roberton are better than average players with potential A grade ability and none of them cost us anything more than pick 25 in the draft.
I would suggest that our recent trading has been very, very good
BBMD, I agree. Also, paying 1.3 million for one player is madness, and even if we got Kelly, I'd be unimpressed if we coughed up that kind of money. Using 10% of your salary cap on one player will eventually get you into strife with you salary cap and list management, not to mention pissing off other players within the club. Geelong are paying Dangerfield well under a million.

Re: Saints Back in for Dusty
A number of clubs were chasing him. But North offered the most $$$ as they are on the slide bigtime.David-Lee wrote:Lol Dusty in his statement said North never mentions our name once...but we were definitely chasing him, its just he never knew about bit lol!
It is not really that hard to follow is it?
PS On LOLs...I am not sure which is the bigger one:
- That you really expected Dusty to list every club that made an offer
- Or even bigger, that North was the only club outside of the Tiger's to put an offer to Dusty's Manager
Both are pissers!

No he wasn't.
Martin was never leaving but the Nth offer was tempting.
We were never in the running.
If calling his manager is 'chasing him in a big way' then all 17 clubs would have done this. He is the best player in the comp for crying out loud.

Con if you has of read my posts throughout the year you will have read that I have stated that Martin was most likely to stay at the Tigers. Even more so than Kelly is likely to stay at GWS.Con Gorozidis wrote: Martin was never leaving but the Nth offer was tempting.

That does dot mean that Martin could not have been made an offer by the Saints. And his manager certainly received offers from more than just North. North just made the biggest $$$ offer and were the only club to continually leak their offers in detail to the media.
When Walsron said what he said about the Saints and Martin, did I think that meant we woyld get him?. No, i just thought it meant that we had a made an other.
Very good players like Martin rarely leave their clubs. There has to be another factor at play. ie Dangerfield want to come home. Buddy wanted to escape the constant attention he got in Melbourne. Mitchell was being offered ridiculously low money by the Swans as they were squeezed by Buddy and Tippet and the Academy rort meant that they had young guns in Heeney and Mills to pay as well, Ablett got a godfather offer for the time with the AFL marketing bonus on top for cream, Carlisle was pissed with Dons, Hamill was pissed with Elliott.
Also with the Saints at present I have long been sceptical about the Saint's Big Fish strategy as Big Fish do not tend to join bottom or emerging teams. However none of that means that the Saints have not had a crack at players like Martin or Kelly.

However with BJ Saints wanted to start a rebuild with more youth and hence were happy to part with both BJ and Dal. So St Kilda did not try that hard to keep him.

I disagree, colleague.thejiggingsaint wrote:Kelly will remain with GWS. Logical choice for him.
Dusty set a precedent in signing a new contract with Richmond. One which Kelly isn't following.
He'll be champing at the bit to become a Saint once GWS' season reaches a conclusion.

Re: Saints Back in for Dusty
I'd love to be proved wrong Colleague, but feel reasonably sure that Kelly will re-sign with GWS. I'm not sure that Dusty "set a precedent" , as many pundits and ( ahem ) " experts " (?!?!) had Nathan Fyffe firmly installed at the Saints, before he made his commitment to the Dockers.Sainternist wrote:I disagree, colleague.thejiggingsaint wrote:Kelly will remain with GWS. if it's not going to be followed?
Then it's not really a precedent, is it
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn
