You've been saying it all year, let the numpties keep on complaining but you never said we were good enough to play finals this year.
Keep up the good work mate, I'm sure the boys are just as dissapointed as we are

+1

Today's effort will puncture a huge hole in the large balloon of Saints Membership for 2018.
How many fence-sitters will put the money towards essentials like kids' clothes
instead of forking out for absolute amateurish game plan, amateur skills, and lack of effort?

Don't get the players to ring lapsed members, waste of time.
Maybe spend that time handling something called a "football"- it's oval shaped, has "Sherrin" on the side.
You can't miss it- or actually, the players can miss it, and do so regularly.

Get rid of all the assistant coaches and get some new ones- they had a chance and have blown it.

Mav tried to ring, dialled a Dees supporter. Gresh kept missing the key pad, Acres dropped the phone completely then fell over.

Mav is playing a secret role that none of us could possibly understand. It is top secret, complex and involves advanced cryptography.
Unless you have a Phd in applied mathematics you would never understand the super secret role he is playing. Only the senior coaching staff know this complex super secret role. One or two high level operatives in MOSSAD and MI5 have been briefed on this.

Mav has gone undercover...deep, deep, undercover. So deep, nobody knows where he is! Damn he's good...who's seen him? Ain't nobody seen him.

At some point, actually getting the ball in the forward line and kicking it in between the big posts more often than you miss needs to give way to hoping you can hold it in our half and kick it at the sticks often enough to outscore the opposition.
And ffs, get Geary to stay within 40 metres of goal at all times and stop leaving our defense open like a 24 hr McDonslds drive thru.
Dempster and Chips have been sadly missed in this regard.

One Dees goal came from Gears' direct oppo, because Gears went to the front of a pack for a throw-in, but ball went over the back, to his opponent

I am not criticising Geary WS. Im nominating him as goal keeper and probably our best defending blocker and he reads the play well. also, he is the least effective kick when we are attacking from half back, so keep him at home defensively and stop the uncontested walk up goals we bleed due to turnovers. Both Dempster and Fisher were very good at this.

So you think the only bloke in the backline that is decent at ground level and has a crack at every contest should shouldn't take the game on? He should fall back to defend the odd 'over the top' goal?

All the goals were over the top goals

You know what, I agree, it was embarrassing, and I could barely watch it. We do have flaws, and there is only one way to fix it.

I think we should raid seaford and take the Linen House centre. Give St Kilda back to who it belongs, the supporters, after all, we know how to win premierships, strip the coaching panel, kidnap dusty, Josh Kelly, Whitfeild, Lever, will probably take two of us to carry Goldstein back but we can do it.

So who's in?

f*** me, can we rename the Op "the Henny Penny" thread....

We are piecing together a list from rejects, money-ballers, haggling for draft picks and selling what little list currency we had to multiply our draft picks, to try and recover from the gaping chasm that was our list profile. In amongst that we have had two GOOD draft picks of our own (top 5).

Someone was pointing out the other day that if we can get Kelly from GWS that we would have 5 of the top twenty picks from that draft year - big deal, GWS had 5 of the top 7 in one draft year and can field a team entirely from first round picks.....!!

Northern clubs get academy free hits draft picks and WA and SA teams benefit from the "go home" factor....

Whilst not excusing poor performance, I think a little rationality is called for - we are not going to simply march to a flag with linear progressions and graduated improvement year on year. Anyone who expects that is deluded. We will have ups and downs and unforeseen set-backs and successes along the path to HOPEFULLY our elusive second flag.

If we finish equal to last years results this is that is a step forward (based on comparing the fixture from last season to this season). That means that besides more experience and another preseason into our VERY young list, we add more pieces of the jigsaw. With a comparable draw next season, we should pencil in making finals as a realistic expectation.

Yes Johnny. You might have missed the secong half. While you were having a melt down Melbourne were kicking over the top goals.

Hmmm. Interesting. The AFL website must have it wrong.

It shows all but 4 of their 14 goals were kicked from outside 40m - and every one of them was in the 1st quarter.

But carry on speaking nonsense.....

The dees scored alot of their goals through rebounding from their defence and then cutting through our defense which sets itself up to trap the ball in our half

As soon as they got throigh this they had an open forward 50 and could easily get set shots from just about whereverbthey wanted, by leaving Geary as goal keeper, we might be able to plug up a hole that is left open when the ball leaves out 50.

I don't really think it would great though, the dees forward press meant that one player back there wouldnt make a difference, we would need all the backs there

how many players do you reckon could win their 50-50 one on ones to warrent that?

i reckon you could say that geary, robbo and Carlisle could. i reckon Brown might, but i dont particularly trust newnes, savage and webster in pure defense situations, or joey when he's there either.
