This smells too much like a deliberate "leak" to me.

It's a bit like a government deliberately "leaking" about a planned 10% tax increase, only to eventually introduce the 5% tax increase that they had planned all along.

A board member with "loose lips" spouts off to a journo in the west, the club denies having any agreement in place at all (all very carefully worded of course) , and then it's out there, as a publically "known" secret which gains more legs the longer Fyfe doesn't sign a new deal at Freo.
Spot on. bulls*** made up on WA radio. Just a way of putting pressure on him to sign with the Dockers.
If it smells like s***, tastes like s*** and looks like s*** it probably is s***.

A deal is not a deal until it is DONE.
That means contracts signed.
If a board member leaked this he is an imbecile.

Fyfe would be absolutely livid if it is true and he has been outed by imbecile to his team mates with whom he has to play out the rest of the season.

But it could well be just someone trying to stir up the pot.
$1.5 million a year is incredible dosh.
Would probably mean both Riewoldt and Montagna asked to leave a year or two earlier than they would like.

For the deal to be done contracts need to be signed and approved by the AFL.
The AFL will be investigate any complaint from Fremantle and may refuse to accept those contracts.
Remember who won and who lost sirengate.
Whoever is in the know - KEEP YOUR STUPID MOUTH SHUT & RESIGN FROM THE BOARD NOW SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO ATTEND AFL INTERVIEWS.

$1.5million a year means Riewoldt has to retire.

Why would not the Dockers be able to match the offer? They already pay him maybe $750000 so they would only need to find another $750000 with Sandilands probable last season and the new EBA.

Whether they would match it is another matter but I believe they could.

It certainly could jeopardise any deal
But more importantly at a time when we have a developing team playing for a possible finals spot why would any true supporter put any more spotlight on the club

Just because someone wants to bignote themselves

This is way worse than a player misbehaving

It would not be first time a club has leaked.

Though at the end of the day it would not matter.

If true, and if kept quiet Freo would still know as Fyfe's Manger would have been testing the waters with them re salary etc.

To landa Big Fish like Fyfe you cannot get the deal done pst season, and a player like Fyfe would not leave the deal that late either.

Well done to the d**khead that leaked it, they may have stuffed it up. Hope, in fact I expect, whoever it is to be shown the door.
AFL Rules prohibit clubs and players talking these sort of deals, but can not prevent agents and clubs talking but not signing deals.
AFL has to eventually sign off on any new deal and contract.
D**khead may have just have killed the deal if true.

Indeed.

It is all a matter of how they see their list and the stage of the rebuild.

Fyfe is only 25 though and at that age there is viirtually no stage of the "Premiership Clock" that a club would not want to keep him, including if you are just starting a rebuild.

IMHO, The most important player we need to get his contract sorted out this season is Dylan Roberton, I'm sure his manager will be asking for a substantial increase in pay for Dylan before he re signs.

We don't want players thinking we are going over the top with an offer to Fyfe and not paying current players their true value - can cause players to look at what other clubs might offer them.
Hopefully Dylan with his tribe of kids, a home (he did have) down Frankston way, wouldn't be wanting to travel too far away to other team's destinations to train. We know he's not tempted to go interstate as his reasons for coming back to Victoria was both him & his wife had parents who help out with grandkid support.
Fingers crossed, his elevation to the leadership group and the proximity of Saints venues to his home and a 'reasonable/fair' pay rise are extra reasons that Robbo would consider in staying with the Saints, as I'm sure other Clubs will be sniffing around him until he signs with the Saints.
I hope he re signs early this season & it doesn't linger on till later in the year.

Agree we need to lock it down. Wonder how much of his currently excellent form is proving himself for a nice contract bonus.

Fyfe manager has denied the story.
As he must !
He and Fyfe can not agree a deal until the end of the season when Fyfe becomes a free agent.

Fyfe will be a RESTRICTED free agent come the end of this season.
That means Fremantle has the option to match any deal from St Kilda.
Don't forget Fyfe is now Fremantle captain and has to play out the season as captain.

Indeed.

Like coaches when they are basically sacked, but the President announces full faith in it...

If it was true, the club would not be confirming it.
