Mitch Brown floating around also.
With Free agents and the better rated draft in 2017 seems a no brainer to be patient and hold the nerve until 2017

If we get Mitch Brown, the following will become quite familiar.older saint wrote:Mitch Brown floating around also.

M. Brown, 2 weeks.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Hmmm. trading for a first round draft pick next year. Reckon this time next year, Fyfe will be wearing a St. Kilda jumper. If Lewis leaves the Hawkers we might end up with pick #5.
I'm daring to dream, but imagine if, IF, Freeman can get his body right next year. We will have a very big bodied, explosive midfield. We'd be like Geelong used to be.

Only because the Pelican has said the Saints have done very well out of today's trade do i concede that it's possible having 2nd round picks is better than
having 1 first round pick in this years draft.
I've heard numerous times over the years that the following years draft is going to be ripper, then a year later when that draft is getting closer the assessment
of the draft pool almost always gets downgraded.
The proof will be in the pudding, when these 2 x 2017 first round draft picks are playing in the Saints best 22.

It really doesn't matter if next years draft is better than this years…Wayne42 wrote:Only because the Pelican has said the Saints have done very well out of today's trade do i concede that it's possible having 2nd round picks is better than

We walk away with a pick between 5 - 15 next year, plus two extra picks inside 40 this year for the price of our pick 10 this year…
We ride like absolute bandits tonight.

Some recruiter bloke on SEN just recently said next years draft could be up there with the 2001 draft. Crazy amount of talent and now we have two first round picks. Sweet!!Wayne42 wrote:Only because the Pelican has said the Saints have done very well out of today's trade do i concede that it's possible having 2nd round picks is better than

Is anyone else getting the sense that we should really only deal with Hawthorn during trade time...
It seems every year they are an absolute delight

How does Lewis leaving the Hawks mean that we'll get pick 5? Can't see the connection. It's the ***** from Princes Park pick is it not?samuraisaint wrote:Hmmm. trading for a first round draft pick next year. Reckon this time next year, Fyfe will be wearing a St. Kilda jumper. Sorry I havent read all this thread but is it right to say that Gold Caost would not have accepted Hawthorn's 1st round next year, pick 23 and pick 36 for a broken O'Meara??

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
I guess he means that Hawthorn will end up 13th next year if they are without Lewis, considering they also will not have their 2017 B&F winner... so our 2017 Hawthorn 1st rounder will be pick 5st.byron wrote:How does Lewis leaving the Hawks mean that we'll get pick 5? I've never disliked Hawthorn. It will be weird next year wanting them to fail for our direct benefit!skeptic wrote:Is anyone else getting the sense that we should really only deal with Hawthorn during trade time...

Yep, that's what I meant. Mitchell won their B&F, Lewis came second, and they have injury issues as well. I even read a rumour that Puopolo might be traded. IF all of those things happen and JOM can't get going they could finish bottom 5 or 6. It could happen, they haven't had a poor year since 2009.

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
If so then it will be as a FA and not as a trade. why would you trade when you can get him for nothing, and moreso when any trade cost would be huge?samuraisaint wrote:Hmmm. trading for a first round draft pick next year. Reckon this time next year, Fyfe will be wearing a St. Kilda jumper.
Next year we need to land an elite FA, whether it be Fyfe, Dusty or the like.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
I'm guessing Hawks will finish in finals maybe even top 4 if they can get JOM on the park. So we downgrade our top pick this year for probably something like pick 14 (but a chance for it to be better than that) and get two second rounders extra. Hard to argue that's not a pretty damn good move. The only worry is we are downgrading our high pick when we need more elite talent. We look like we are building crazy depth but not necessarily a lot of the really high calibre skillful players. That's the opposite of our last flag tilt where we had a lots of a-graders but lacked depth. But those picks do let you do some wheeling and dealing to get some high end talent.

Well the Adelaide Advertiser has the Saints & the Hawks swapping Pick 10 for the Hawks first round in 2017. They must think we are stupid. I suppose they only worry about the Cows and the Powerless ones.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
