I refused to talk him out of it; I don't think god-bothering rabid Christians should force their kids to follow their beliefs either.
I was proud of him that he could decide for himself who to follow without being brain-washed.

Re: How Should We Feel About The Dogs????
Let's get ONE thing straight here: ANYONE who thinks that OUR supporters are "as pure as the driven snow " and "paragons of magnamimity" when it comes to opposition supporters are plain DUMB! either that, or are being deliberately obtuse. I've had bad experiences with some opposition supporters over the journey, footy is a passionate pursuit. I had the misfortune to be sitting near one of "our own" at Kardinia Park in 2002 as this individual sledged a young Gary Ablett about his father's actions, referring to him being the "son of a paedophile drug addict" I've never ever forgotten how disgusted and embarrassed I was at this dog act from a "Sainter"(SIC) a Geelong supporter called this ratbag out by saying "you and your club deserve each other" I had no answer!
I am Saints through and through, anyone who knows me will tell you just how much! but by gum, this week I'm a DOGGIE! ANYONE who wants anything less than a Bulldogs win on Saturday is (IMHO) a loser, and a BUM!
Go Doggies GO!

Fair call re Gazza's Dad IMO lol. Anyway, I'd pick you Dave as first in line on the Doggie bandwagon! If only we'd one our second flag I'd be more than happy for the Dogs to win on Saturday.thejiggingsaint wrote:Let's get ONE thing straight here: ANYONE who thinks that OUR supporters are "as pure as the driven snow " and "paragons of magnamimity" when it comes to opposition supporters are plain DUMB! either that, or are being deliberately obtuse. Let's not be too generous and as the saying goes, never give a sucker an even break.
They'll have to wait until we notch up our third flag before I'm comfortable with them winning one. That could take a while.

The doggies will be fighting well above their weight and against the weight of Sydney concessions. Franklin will be up and about and running cocked-shoulder into a few of them, right from the first bounce, I'm sure.
Sydney has clearly been the better team all year and it may be over at quarter time or by half time.
If they win against the odds ... I will be pleasantly surprised.

Re: How Should We Feel About The Dogs????
I'm glad for their supporters. All true loyal footy fans should get to experience the week with their team in the grannie. Its a golden week - you feel so special. Everyone is talking about your team. Oppo supporters are a mix of respect and envy - if you've made the big dance then you get genuine respect. You read every inch of every newspaper. If you can go to training its like a party. The grand final parade is magic with your team in it.
Even at work everyone treats you like you are special - every morning is like a press conference
"How are you feeling?"
"Yeah look its going ok, just taking it a day at a time, quietly confident but not getting ahead of myself - long way to go"
"I don't think you'll win"
"THIS PRESS CONFERENCE IS OVER!"
Doggies fans are like us - true loyal supporters in ways other clubs will never understand. Glad they get to experience this week even if they don't get the chocolates.
I honestly believe just making a grand final can change your club even if you lose. You saw it with Geelong and Collingwood and I think you've seen it with us. A flag suddenly becomes something that is definitely attainable and not just a pipe dream that it can seem after so many years without one. The club snaps into another professional gear with more focus. You learn so much from getting so close and it lifts the clubs self-respect and ambition.

Well, what would you call him? A deceiver of young women? The truth is sometimes unpleasant, although the son is in no way responsible for the father's actions.
It's not something I would call out at the footy even to the father. Poor show really but that prick was responsible for a young girl's death.

Yes. He was. At least eventually he had the courage to admit it. No one would have been any the wiser unless he came fwd and there was no real proof. My mum who worked at a footy club for many years said this to me once, 'Best to support them from the fence, you don't ever want to get to know too many of them in person as you'll inevitably end up disappointed.'saynta wrote:thejiggingsaint wrote:Let's get ONE thing straight here: ANYONE who thinks that OUR supporters are "as pure as the driven snow " and "paragons of magnamimity" when it comes to opposition supporters are plain DUMB! either that, or are being deliberately obtuse. Now, no doubt there are some great blokes out there who play footy. But self righteous fans who love to shout s*** out at the footy at players are fools, nothing more nothing less. Every club has their % of low lifes, whether it's public knowledge or not. Best to just enjoy the footy and comment on what's occurring out on the ground I reckon.

How should we feel about the Dogs?
Well, to thine own self be true, so how you feel about them is how you should feel about them.
I'd prefer it if St Kilda beat them to a second flag, personally. They moan about having seen seven losing prelims. Try four losing Grand Finals and a draw.
They think they have a monopoly on being downtrodden underdogs ... that they are somehow unique.
If they win it will be a bitter pill, but survivable. No doubt it will give the club motivation that if they can do it then so can we. That would be the only positive.

Go the Swans!!!
I have had bad experiences with Bulldog supporters my whole life and would love to see them lose. None of them were going for us after we beat them in the prelims. It too will be a bitter pill to swallow. It won't be the end of the world but I'd rather win the big one in the modern era before them. Not only that it brings back the pain of 97, 09, 10 that we just weren't good enough...Makes me sick to my stomach...I try to be happy for dogs supporters like so many on here but guess I'm not wired like that...
In the words of Tupac Amaru Shakur....
"F u c k the dogs and if you're down with the western Bulldogs then f u c k you too!"

I still haven't forgiven the team for the way the 1997 Brownlow was handled by their players and the booing from their section on the night. Poor losers...always have been.
After we beat them in a prelim final at etihad the doggie supporters standing in back of us on level one threw their beer over us.
At the time I didn't give a rats. But I have grown to hate them since. It was their constant whinging and booing of Roo that did it for me.
Still, I wont be upset if they win on the weekend. For that matter I don't actually care who wins, or who loses.

I love this. Reminds me of how I've felt every time we've been in the GF the last 20 years.

It's for blokes like this I'm hoping the doggies win it. A lifetime of waiting and a rare shot at the prize. It would mean so much to someone like that. More so than to fans of a team who've won it recently.

a result either way will have it's good points as far as I'm concerned..seeing the AFL propped up side Sydney lose is a good thing but seeing the Dogs win relegates us to the bottom in the flag count having said that they have waited longer than us and would be good see Victoria with the cup.
