Minchington has just been a clearance beast.

His best game by a mile. He looks a level above.

We really should win this. Been a good game.

Yep.

Lost by 7.

Shattered.

Another one of those terrible first quarters. Won every stat that matters. Just too little too late.

Minchington showed how good he is today.

Minch BOG. Hope he uses today as a lunching pad for next year. If he gets his tank up he could be " the one that comes from nowhere" next year. Minch, Sinclair, Lonie and Billings will make a handy quartet of half forwards that can rotate through the midfield. All can kick and have composure.

Box Hill's start was reminiscent of their affiliates a night earlier, kicking five goals to one in the opening term. Matt Spangher kicked the first to spark the onslaught, but it was also the ability of O'Rourke (10 disposals) and Simpkin (eight) to snare the footy in the opening term that was the difference – taking a 28-point lead at the first change.
Sandringham slotted three goals in the first eight minutes of the second term to edge the margin back to 11 points. Darren Minchington was the difference with 11 clearances in the opening half. It allowed for easy goals to Arryn Sipposs and Saad. Marc Lock kicked a steadier and Jed Anderson also kicked a late one to give the Hawks a 14-point buffer at the main break.
Box Hill took an 11-point lead into the final change, where Langford clearly drew upon coach Marco Bello's words. "It was a grind all day, everyone had to play their role. I'm sure the crowd and the media got Marco's message at three-quarter time, it's about winning the contests," he said.
Sandringham coach Paul Hudson's message was simple. "What have you done all year? Run all over the top" as he eluded to the Zebras fast-finishing. Instead, the Hawks' prevailed, 12.17 (89) to 12.10 (82).

Minch - BOG and by a mile. 10 clearances, 18 possessions, 5 tackles.
Pierce - Vey good. Some nice deft taps and good follow up work.
Saad - Dangerous but has missed same chances. Has 2.1 but should have 3 or 4.
Markworth - Quiet.
McKenzie - Quiet but has done some nice things when he has it.
Saunders - Good run and has taken the game on. Bit sloppy at times but has been good.
Templeton - Quiet.
Murdoch - Kicked a nice long goal. Needs to find more of the ball.
Siposs - Looks dangerous with the ball and uses his long raking boot. Kicked a goal.
Shenton - Has kept his opponent out of the game completely but lacked polish with the ball.
Curren - Usual Curren game. Fair bit of the ball and some long tackles.
Simpkin - Quiet. Aggressive as always.
This is what should happen with these players (imho of course)

Minch - Keep - But lets start playing him in the middle in the seniors.
Pierce - Delist.
Saad - Delist.
Markworth - Delist.
McKenzie - Keep for now - Goes in hard but lacks skills and poise.
Saunders - Not Sure - Sloppy at times and could do with a haircut.
Templeton - Delist.
Murdoch - Keep for now as we need back ups.
Siposs - Delist.
Shenton - Keep for now as we need back ups.
Curren - Not Sure - Sloppy at times.
Simpkin - Delist - Just too short for key possie and not fast enough for anything else.
Holmes - Delist - He will not make it so let's stop pretending he will be any good.

St kilda
State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)
This weekend: Preliminary final - Box Hill v Sandringham - Saturday September 19, 2.40pm, North Port Oval

Midfielder Darren Minchington put in a best-on-ground performance in Sandringham's agonising seven-point preliminary final loss to Box Hill on Saturday.

After the Hawks kicked away with a 29-point quarter-time advantage, the 21-year-old provided his team with the spark it desperately needed in the second quarter.

Minchington, who signed a one-year deal with the Saints earlier this month, finished the game with 35 disposals (25 contested), 15 clearances, 12 inside 50s and two goals in a standout display.

One of Minchington's many highlights came early in the final term, when he won the centre clearance by dribbling the ball to half-forward.

He then received a follow-up handball from Saint Josh Saunders and slotted a running goal from outside 50m to reduce the Zebras' deficit to 11 points.

Small forward Ahmed Saad benefited from Minchington's clean ball use in the centre.

The 25-year-old livewire sprung to life in the second term, working hand in hand with Minchington as the Zebras kicked three goals in the space of seven minutes.

Saad ended the match with two goals, while forward Arryn Siposs, developing utility Brodie Murdoch and Saunders booted one major apiece.

The Zebras missed out on making their first VFL Grand Final appearance since 2006.

Probably too early to delist Pierce, and I reckon Murdoch and McKenzie will be good.

25 contested. Bloody hell. That is huge. Lets give Minch more opportunities at clearances. That is a big game right there.

Thanks to everyone who went to the game and wrote a report. Appreciated.

Can someone please stop me from thinking Meatballs is another Joey.

They play a similar style and like Joey Meatballs is a slow developer but could be in the cusp
