Re: Jake Carlisle
Probably deserves its own thread, but this raises serious questions about Delaney. 5th in last years B&F and now seemingly staring down the barrel.
We got him to play on the gorrilas but there arent many gorrilas left int AFL. The only obvious match ups would be Cloke and Hawkins.
Maybe Tippett at the Swans. Thats about it.

Re: Jake Carlisle
Why do people want to trade away Hickey? Even if (big if) Holmes gets to AFL standard you need a squad of three capable rucks
One could go down, two could go down.
Hawthhorn use three ruckmen but theirs seem to be better at other roles than ours.
Maybe with better delivery as a forward Hickey could get on the board.
Anyway back to Carlisle, he would be a fantastic get.
2 picks under 25 and Carlisle sounds good as it would complete our spine for nearly ten years
But my god pick 5-6 needs to be used on the best midfielder available in my opinion

Re: Jake Carlisle
Don't like at all the idea of a first rounder for Carlisle. A deal involving second round or further then worth considering.
Didn't realise that he's such a big fella. 198cm and 98kg. That's a big unit.

Re: Jake Carlisle
We would want a top 5 pick if he played for us. No question. Is he worth that? Probably not. A pick between 10 and 15 would be fair IMO. 2nd rounder, even with steak knives, wont get it done.

However if we were a disgraceful basket case of a club with players facing the wrath of WADA, we may have to temper our expectations just a tad.

Re: Jake Carlisle
It seems crazy to make a call on this before:
a) we know what pick we will get
b) we know if GWS and Sydney are going to remove Mills and Hopper from the top 5 picks.
Both of these things will impact the decision.
If we get pick 6 and those two guys are removed, we really end up with a pick 8 equivalent player. For that I would take Carlisle.
But what if we have pick 5 and Hopper and Mills are still available?
If we want Carlisle then we should probably nominate one of the NSW boys with our pick and force the issue. That way we have some certainty . Of course they both might end up nominated in the top 4. Which is also good because then at least GWS and the SWans are forced to pay a high price for them.
Lets say:
Lions - Weitering
Blues - Schache
GC - Nominate Mills but take Parish
Bombers - Francis
Saints - Nominate Hopper - If GWS want Hopper (likely) we trade pick 5 to the Bombers (for Carlisle) who take Weideman or Balic (If GWS decline on Hopper - which is HIGHLY unlikely we take Hopper)
Demons - Weideman or Balic

Re: Jake Carlisle
Forget friggin Carlisle!
I want players of good character, thats right team players not self centred players that whinge and sook when they are not played in their preferred position
Crikey the guy has his own name tattooed down his back and by all accounts is a douchebag and looking at 2 years on the sidelines
Lets draft and develop another youngster not someone tarred by the Essendope brush who has character issues
Plenty of young key defensive players in this years crop that might be available at our 2nd, 3rd or 4th round picks
We have done well so far in the last few drafts lets back ourselves again to find some late value

I have no idea about his character or personality and it doesnt worry me all that much if he is genuinely motivated to play for us.Devilhead wrote:Forget friggin Carlisle!

I have more structural concerns. The Hawks and Eagles both play fairly small down back. Do we need Carlisle and Goddard both down back? Roberton is also pretty tall (I know he isnt much of an aerialist). Seems a lot to spend on a positon we may or may not need?
But heck if we finish 13th and then the draft is compromised by the Lions getting a PP and the NSW boys being removed.... we mightnt be missing out on much...

So how can we have any certainty? We can't trade pick 5 or 6 or equivalent of 8 after the draft.

Re: Jake Carlisle
I'd say hang him out to dry.
He has baggage, as in a suspension hangin' over his head.
Also the Bummers are desperate for a low draft pick.
If someone else picks him up so be it.
We'll go a young gun at pick 6 !
Probably better being a midfielder anyway.

Re: Jake Carlisle
It is majorly risky to draft anyone who is still subject to a WADA tribunal, and that risk MUST be factored into his value.
He is a great player and the type of guy that I see Richo really getting the most out of. Not sure about worth. I think Hickey will be on the table if the price is right. We might also use a future draft pick. But I would be dead against giving up our first round pick. We desperately need elite midfielders.

Re: Jake Carlisle
Where did the notion of us trading our pick 6 for Carlisle ever come from?
When you listen to everything coming out of the club we are desparate to get another high quality mid and I agree.
The chance of us trading our first pick are 1 out of 10 tops.
Best guess - pick #6 Rhys Mathieson

Look Drugges got #16 for a contracted Rhyder.
Carlilse is OOC and not as good as Rhyder.
How in hell anyone would think he is worth a top 10 ia anyones guess.
if we trade up to pick 12-15, well that's a different story.
Pick #6 is a draft mid or a traded mid.
You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Jake Carlisle
I think age is the major reason for the difference. On his own and if he went into the draft with the risk on a small suspension I think he does still get about pick 10. He is a tall CHB or CHF and still has 10 years in the game and is proven. people seem happy to pay pick one or two for a smaller CHB who hasn't proven anything in the AFL in the draft this season. To be honest I would take Carlisle over him. Having said that we need mids and the only way I would do the deal is Hickey and our second pick for him but I still think he is a top 10 pick.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Bomber supportersstjay wrote:Where did the notion of us trading our pick 6 for Carlisle ever come from?

Definitely won't be at the Saints.
They've got to give up picks to fit Silvagni, Bradley, and potentially Rice onto the list, and you know the Bombers are going to demand the world for Carlisle.
