I don't think I ever asked you to converse with me anyway so "stop away" by all means (I thought you quoted me??) but I'll take thst to mean you don't like my reply to your diatribe (no I didn't read the second essay as I didn't have 2 spare hours...)Austinnn wrote:Teflon, until you learn to read I'm done conversing with you.

I think my point man is your previous post differentiates between how long the Dogs have been at the bottom and Dees as if that proves something. It doesn't - if proves 2 clubs can rebuild differently and not all get it right taking into account the approach each club takes during their time at the bottom.samuraisaint wrote:Not sure of your point here dude. Dees will win a flag before before Dogington.samuraisaint wrote:and meanwhile - the Bulldogs after only a few years at the bottom win against a side which decided against short term wins, propelling them onto the edge of the top 4, meanwhile the Dees, a side which have been rebuilding since 2006 lost by ten goals and are still one position below us, and will probably be two places below us in 24 hours time.
I will take a win any time at the expense of an orchestrated loss.

Re: If we deliberately play badly..
Agree Dragit and the key point here is choice - that's all the system rewards you with.... clubs can still get that wrong !! But the quality of top 5 picks now and what's known is better than ever and there's a reason they rank them ...dragit wrote:I imagine there would be very good data to support that higher picks are more likely to become better playersAustinnn wrote:You also cannot quantify the effect of moving up 1-5 places in draft order, other than retrospectively. Prove otherwise.
The success of picks 1-4 over picks 5-8 would be miles apart.
No guarantees each year obviously.

Dogs now have an elite fwd imo
Dees too
Both look good in the middle - Dees probably shade higher quality if Petracca is Judd like as some predicted
We are behind both IMO in quality through the Middle and hedging our bets McCartin is as at least as good as Hogan/Boyd our midfield right now is 1 paced without an elite ball user that also has line breaking speed and who can jag a goal

Re: If we deliberately play badly..
I think the point here is that it doesn't really matter which team has spent more time on the bottom, Melbourne may be building a better & more sustainable team than Footscray, rising quickly doesn't always pay and can actually hinder your chances later.samuraisaint wrote: don't care, hate em both.

I suppose it's not the timing of the ride but the choices and luck you have when bottoming out - let's face it, bring bottom with N Riewoldt as the standout was probably easier than in other years where it's so even and not deep talent wise
I do believe we have to stock pile more talent I do not think we are ready to false dawn just yet

Re: If we deliberately play badly..
Port's demise?
IMO it is not so much lack of talent but rather that opposition coaches have worked out how to combat Port's Gameplan.
You see this in AFL all the time. A team innovates in how they play, and if successful opposition coaches work on their gameplans to combat it. Good coaches then tweak or innovate again, or fall by the wayside. ie GT fell by the wayside when opposition coaches worked out how to combat GT's gameplan...ie "The Streak"...and its aftermatch. No Plan B, and so it was start of GT's demise as coach (people will forgive winners for their sins, but not losers).
You saw this with Richmond who went backawrds when opposition coaches pressured them into exposing their poor kicking skills. Hardwick has now tweaked how Rickmond play. Let;s see how the PA Bran's Trust go.
With GWS their current slimp is not just due to losing Mummy, but also that opposition coaches our countering the GWS frenetic running gameplan. Slow GWS down and they fall away.
One of the beautiful aspects of AFL is in my oppinion that it is a very tactical game. To be successful you need all of talent, work-rate, team-play and ethic, committment, fitness and strategy. Great talent can be amazing, but like with White at present unless you have it all, then it counts for naught. There is a long line of amazingly talentd players who have been at the Saints who could have been anything but where not. ie Owen, Muir, Gorozidis, McAdam, G Sidebottom, ...

I don't reckon Plugger goes too badly, but obviously plenty of folk here want to try and take him down a peg: I can see you are a bigger individual, Windy.
Barks?? Not Barks4eva, surely? Hope he was more tolerable in real life. The company we keep, eh!
May your remaining time on prison planet pass with happiness and fulfilment.

Unlike others on here now who sadly simply critique others posts, add no original thought and just post voluminous dribble
Marto/Barks offered a view - liked or otherwise and let's face it the defence of it at times was gold
I always thought "the squares were rooted" after Barks maths lessons...

Barks was a great bloke and a real Saints man.
Marto was a flog of the highest order, arrogant in person (for some unknown reason), and a know all on football forums.
Last time I read one of his petty posts he was calling McCartin a fat diabetic. Hardly a true Saints supporter, just an internet hero cabbage.
