That's 'how' we get him first he has to say he wants to come. He will.Con Gorozidis wrote:As explained above - this means next to nothing under the new rules. We still need a draft pick and only get 20% discount.yipper wrote:Has chosen the saints.

Re: Bailey Rice?
Will need a bunch of later picks to make up the points if not using 42. Might not be possible.

Can you do that? Surely not for bidding points, because you don't know what picks you will have.borderbarry wrote:We can always dig into next years picks for points if needed.

If not pick 42 we will likely need two in the 50s. Not at all straight fwd. Re: Bailey Rice?
There was a poster on SS who, months ago, was very confident in his mail and made the call that Rice would nominate the Saints.
Couldn't find the post but huge kudos to him - he was on the money.

Re: Bailey Rice?
My understanding is that if a player is called in round 1, the club claiming father son privilege gets a 20% discount.
After round 1 the discount becomes a flat 197 points.
I don't expect any club to called Rice's name in round 1.
That means both Calton and St KIlda could take him at a 197 points discount.
Lets say a club called his name at pick36 = 502 points, St Kilda and Carlton would have to pay 305 points made up of their remaining picks.
Pick 47 has a value of 316 points.
My assumptions are
If both St Kilda and Carlton claimed father son privilege and bid 305 points he would go to his chosen club for 305 points.
If St Kilda called his name at pick 42 = 395 points but Carlton was his chosen club then Carlton would have to match St Kilda's call with 395 points made up form their next pick plus a top up from subsequent picks sliding.
But then Carlton would not have enough points left - what then happens - do they borrow from the next year ?????
That was a load of cr@p Ace.
Bailey rice has made his choice.
He has nominated St Kilda as his preferred father son club.
When another club calls Bailey rice's name St Kilda must step up to the plate.
The number of points bid by the other club is discounted and then St Kilda must put forward that amount of discounted points.
Only if St Kilda fails to do so does Carlton get the chance to put forward those discounted points.
Only doubt is what happens if Carlton happens to be that other club.

Over at Big Footy, Brian Speaking in forked tongues is spreading rumours about Josh Kelly and Lachie Weller coming to the Saints

I love this post. Hilarious.supersaints wrote:Starting to wonder wether Dean was at Carlton too long, and may be influenced by their "ways" . Dean was banned as a coach from basketball for six months because he played his son ( i think it was Bailey) in a grand final under a false name in 2013... Very Carlton like.
That being said hope Bailey chooses the Saints if he is half as courageous as his old man he will be more than worthy. I sometimes sat with his fiancé in the stand every time Dean got crunched she used to get upset and put her arms around me... She was a living doll ... it made loosing by ten goals almost bearable.

Re: Bailey Rice?
Our third round pick once at 42 had a value of 395 points
Our fourth at 60 value of 142 points.
But those points are diminishing as the AFL hands out compensation picks like confetti.
If 20% discount applies we could match a draft pick of around 30.
If 197 points discount applies we could match a pick around 26 or 27.
Without our 3rd and 4th round picks we may not have enough points in bank.
