On a side note, Luke Dunstan was interviewed in the Victory room after the game & rates Blake Acres pretty high. Said he'll be better than himself, Eli & Billings combined!
The one hole we've got is in defence. We need another genuine key defender. Dempster, Roberton and Gilbert are all tall enough but none of them is a KPD.

Re: Changes next week
They've obviously got long term plans for Goddard and they don't involve playing him one week earlier than necessary. And if Tom Simpkin can't get a game at the moment he never will, which is a real shame. I like Tom and think he could at leat be doing a defensive job on some of the oppositions talks. I know he's probably not as tall as Roberton or Dempster but I think he's more suited to that sort of job.#gosaintas wrote:There are two of them running around for Sandy....we could always select one of them.remboy wrote:Gilbert must be close to getting a game. Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.
Re: Changes next week
Newnes position has to be under pressure. Simply not impacting games anywhere near enough.
Ray gets 11 more touches than him playing a similar role in his first game for the year. 150 games more experience, but still, Ray's standard should be the benchmark for Newnes.

Re: Changes next week
My preferred changes
Out: Sinclair (r), Schneider (r), Shenton, Longer
In: Minchington, Weller, Membrey, Lee
B: Lee, Delaney, Geary
HB: Savage, Dempster, Webster
C: Roberton, Armitage, Montagna
HF: Billings, Riewoldt, Minchington
F: Lonie, Bruce, Membrey
Foll: Hickey, Steven, Weller
Int: Acres, Ross, Newnes, Ray (sub)
Emg: Dunstan, McKenzie, Gilbert
With two small forward/midfielders demoted to the rookie list surely Minch finally gets his chance. Longer looks cooked and Hickey needs a chance to play his natural position - when he needs a rest we should just have Lee/Bruce/Delaney contest the ruck with a third man up every time. We need to bring in Lee or Goddard because going in with one tall defender is basically tanking - I don't want us to lose to Melbourne because Cam Pederson kicks 6. Membrey IMO is needed for structure and pressure inside 50; he hasn't hit the scoreboard too much but he makes life easier for the rest of our forwards. Weller is an automatic in but with the return of Ross and Ray, Dunstan and McKenzie will have to earn their spots back through the VFL. Gilbert is probably ready but I don't want to see Acres or Roberton dropped for him - will need to force his way in. I think these changes would really fix up our structure - right now we have way too many medium defensive flankers and small offensive flankers.
Weller v Jones
Delaney v Hogan
Lee v Pederson
Dempster v Howe
Geary v Garlett

Re: Changes next week
I would have McKenzie and Dunstan in ahead of Membrey and Minch in a heartbeat.
I don't rate Membrey at the moment. Doesn't do enough to warrant a spot.

i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

Would be ironic if Siposs ends up getting into the team before Membrey does after all the doom and gloom.saintspremiers wrote:I would have McKenzie and Dunstan in ahead of Membrey and Minch in a heartbeat.

You don't expect me to remember players. Yep he is a certain in. Maybe Ross out. We will be terribly slow with Ross, Armo, Weller and Dunstan in the same side.

Re: Changes next week
Armo does seem to play a bit faster these days but yeah - that's pretty pedestrian. You would think the order goes Armo, Weller first and second, then a choice between Dunstan and Ross. I'd go Ross.plugger66 wrote:saynta wrote:No Weller?plugger66 wrote:out Schneider Sinclair Longer

Dunstan was nearly best on the ground before he got smashed in the head last game. He is a certain in. Ross isn't a certain out though. The worst part is 3 of the 4 are inside players. At least Armo has some outside run now. We really do need to recruit some outside players with pace.

Don't we what. Luckily there's a whole bunch of nippy outsiders in the draft. Surely we can lure a Seagull to the club via.FA or OOCplugger66 wrote:#gosaintas wrote:Armo does seem to play a bit faster these days but yeah - that's pretty pedestrian. You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Changes next week
This might be an ideal week to debut Goddard. Playing in a match where we could be able to win, and even if we don't, you can't see the Dees forward line getting endless entries.
He is basically the same height and weight as Hogan who was flat against the Pies.
(Delaney is the perfect matchup for Pederson.)
Is it possible that this match was earmarked as his debut for a while? Good form in the VFL, given a week off a few weeks ago, emergency last week, all building up to a debut against a reasonably matched opponent.

Re: Changes next week
What is with all this recent rallying for Minchington?
From huddos reports and from the couple of games I've been to not even playing well in the reserves. Not even playing midfield - so what forward gets dropped?
Some even wanting Sinclair to rest? Wow.

Con Gorozidis wrote:Minch has to be in surely? A week or two off footy wouldnt hurt Sinclair. He has a had a good run for his first year.
Newnes has been disappointing this year but cant see him being dropped.
Weller and Dunstan will be back so I guess Ray and Acres are vulnerable . I'm not sure we can continue to play two ruckmen if they are not contributing.
In: Weller, Dunstan, Minchington
Out: Sinclair (rest), Hickey, Acres
p.s
A midfield of Weller, Dunstan, Ross, Armitage is a tad crab-like but that is what we have at the moment. We need to recruit another outside mid.
Sinclair was sub last week - how much more rest does he need?

I haven't time to give this much thought at the moment. However I am hoping for one thing and I await with unbridled excitement.........for the return of Gilbo!!!!!
Re: Changes next week
Spinner, Sinc and Schneids have to go back to the rookie list this week cause Siposs and Markworth are off LTI

Not that I wish it on anyone but the chances we won't have any more longer term injuries this year are very slight. Schneider and Sinclair will both be back in the senior team this year.
