I wonder if anyone is having second thoughts about the contract extension. It's only one week I know but I don't think they improved over the last two seasons. The Fireman wrote:beating the skunks was good for footy...Buckley can't coach......all is good.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

Based on Freo's last two games at Etihad, we're about 23 goals ahead of Collingwood.

Looks as though the AFL will get its wish.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: AFL wants Freo to win the flag this year
Seriously
Freo were 14th in 2008 - In that year they drafted Stephen Hill (109 games), Hayden Ballantyne (87) , Nic Suban (84) , Zac Clarke (53) and Michael Walters (43) . Now that is some pretty god damn unbelievable drafting - thats 3 guns and 2 very very good players from one years draft!!!! - and that is with NO priority picks or trades.
In 2009 they were 14th - they drafted Nat Fyfe (73 games) & Anthony Morabito (23*) * 3 knee recos but still on list.
I throw the challenge out there - GWS aside (because we dont know yet & because they were gifted picks) can anyone find me a better draft success rate than Freo had with their 2008 picks?????
Possibly the greatest drafting strike rate ever.

Re: AFL wants Freo to win the flag this year
Just goes to show the power of the draft.
Of course - you need good coaching and good culture to develop your draftees - but sheesh - good drafting is a bit of a head start.
There is only so much you can do.
In some ways Freo got a bit lucky because they went local in 2008 - Hill, Suban, Ballantyne and Walters. Only Clarke was an import (Oakleigh). 5 local kids all ending up as either guns or very good players is simply remarkable in a year or two drafting. (Fyfe in 2009 also a local).

Lucky we didn't trade our first round pick.
One of my up and coming pet hates is the line 'i believe you never trade a first round pick' bulls***.

All things considered - 2009 may have the been the worst draft/trade period for any club in VFL/AFL history!
And 5 years on - we are about to pay the piper for that.

Maybe it helps us in the long run...Con Gorozidis wrote:All things considered - 2009 may have the been the worst draft/trade period for any club in VFL/AFL history!

It might mean we get top 3 picks for 3-4 years... Rebuilding with some genuine superstars.
If we'd drafted 3-4 decent players in 08-09, maybe we'd be in the 10th - 14th area now instead... But actually further from a flag than we are now.
Perverse way to get there, but think of us without Riewoldt... Probably wouldn't have made a grand final.
The (footy) lord works in mysterious ways... And he's fine with Good Friday footy btw, told me last night.

Someone posted that in 2009 and was smashed for suggesting such rot

Was a secret and cunning plan by Lyon!
He was 5 steps ahead to get us some good draft picks in 13/14! Good work Rosco!

I don't know
But the joke would work better if Cripps was not an incorrect selection?
Maybe the non photo = dud correlation is pretty high?
He certainly doesn't debunk that theory
But, it was more the moving on of Ball for zero.... And the giving up a FRDP for Zero which was hilarious
Both would be still be playing seniors... Perhaps one as skipper and one as a gun player?

Dud in your opinion. Because it suits your pathetic prediction that the player was a poor selection because his photo wasn't immediately on the AFL site. Another distortion of the truth - you'll continually proclaim he is a dud just to fulfil the vomit you proclaim.
Another instance of making up history to suit your argument. It is far more likely Luke Ball wouldn't be captain of our club had he stayed. And the only comparison of choosing a gun player from the 2009 draft would be ports Jasper Pittard, and how we missed him last year. Other than that it's a guess. Maybe we would have picked up a Tom Lynch.
Don't make up history. Don't distort the truth. It's all a matter of suiting you 'bold' predictions which are in many instances baseless (eg photogate) or completely manufactured (above).

Cripps has turned out to be one of the better picks. He just doesnt play for us. Probably that photo thing. Anyway when you finally had the courage to tell us who you would draft, think it was 2011, none now play. Just proves that its easy to have a go at anyone but once its forsight some just fail.
