They would win we would win but I think Gilbert is a keeper as he fit our age profile personally. Dom Tyson was meant to get to the Tigers last year.

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
So we trade out our only experienced ruckman, with a huge tank and great hands, a natural leader and one of the few in the early 20's age range, for a late round 1 pick and a fringe player???
What the hell is so good about that?

Don't take it too seriously, forumites are just filling in time until the club actually does something.fugazi wrote:So we trade out our only experienced ruckman, with a huge tank and great hands, a natural leader and one of the few in the early 20's age range, for a late round 1 pick and a fringe player???

His not even a experienced ruckman. How many ruck duels or opponents did he beat this year?

Not many. Most overrated player on the list. The deal sounds to good to be true so probably isnoob wrote:His not even a experienced ruckman. How many ruck duels or opponents did he beat this year?

I don't know if its true, but I dd say I thought it was possible when buddy announced he was leaving.
Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
Ben's a great mark, good kick and an imposing physical threat. His ruckwork is average though....so where does that leave us? Hickey/Stanley combination with Lewis the apprentice.
Not sure about Savage but I doubt the deal is real.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Is he so bad if rotating with Hale, i50 and in the ruck?PJ wrote:Ben's a great mark, good kick and an imposing physical threat. His ruckwork is average though....so where does that leave us? Hickey/Stanley combination with Lewis the apprentice.

He has a tank but he runs possibly slower than me.fugazi wrote:So we trade out our only experienced ruckman, with a huge tank and great hands, a natural leader and one of the few in the early 20's age range, for a late round 1 pick and a fringe player???

He does not take enough marks to justify having great hands either.
Does it matter if he is a great leader when he performances have not been entirely amazing thus far?
That being stated he is at a stage where he could break-out and with that, I don't see the point in trading him.
Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
That doesn't sound like a particularly agile/mobile ruck combination. Look, he's a pretty imposing player in our line up but is it the best we can do with our list. Our problem has always been can you fit Ben, Stanley and Hickey in the same team before you get too top heavy.SainterK wrote:Is he so bad if rotating with Hale, i50 and in the ruck?PJ wrote:Ben's a great mark, good kick and an imposing physical threat. Ben ain't going nowhere- he's the kind of player we are trying to get INTO the club.
Sheesh, I thought he had a pretty good year considering he rucked alone for most of it!
Goldstein and he are the only ones in the league capable of that- of course he's not the complete package yet but what ruckman is at his age?
That number 1 Kruzer? That number 2 Nic Nat?
Why there is emphasis still on tapwork these days is beyond me... the game has moved on.
Just like:
Do we care anymore how quick someone is leading out of the goalsquare? No.
That used to be a big deal remember- I used to love gloating to my mates about how good Plugger was at it for a guy his size.
Lloyd, Dunstall, Lynch- same skill, irrelevant in todays endurance footy.
Sure, it's still a nice thing for someone to have- pace off a standing start... but not something that defines the worth of a player.
Same with tapwork- nice to have.. non essential when compared with essentials like endurance, footy smarts and marking- things Big Ben has in spades.
The biggest thing McEvoy needs to work on is his leading timing and patterns while up forward.... But that will come with experience
I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.
I know how Dal feels.

Tapwork is sort of what the ruckman is there to do.
Sainter for life.
Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
Don't think I'd do it, very hard to come by good ruck's.
McEvoy is really good around the ground, but not so with the taps. We only really have Hickey and Stanley left.
Unsure, I mean Savage is "ok" but not that great of a player imo. Pick 18 for McEvoy, mmm not to sure.

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
Not saying we should or shouldnt
But I think calling Savage just a fringe player is slightly unfair on him.
Ok he didnt play in the GF but 56 games at 22yo in the top side of the last 2 years means ur a pretty good player.
Probably a season or two away from being a gun.
From a bigger picture - how do we rate Hickey and Rhys?
In my opinion one of the 3ruckmen has to go as their isnt room for all 3 in the same side and I think Rhys is a ruckman who can swing fwd but will never be a permanent kpp.

Likely to be announced in next day or so.
How come no mention of this in any media rumour files? This is the only place I've seen this.
