In the old days that would be true, but these days any player can be traded with a swap of picks. We might trade Dunell and our fourth rounder (50-odd) for Essendon's third rounder (40-odd). Everyone wins: Essendon get a known quantity, we get rid of a guy who doesn't fit our needs, their pick is not much worse, ours is slightly improved.

TDL was only slightly more well-credentialed when he was traded last year.

Im not sure that happens to much. There are still bugger all trades as opposed to players delisted. I doubt anyone would be looking at a regular Sandy player like Dunnel but could be wrong.

Exactly. Essendon wanted to Rookie him year we took him ( father son connection ) despite not wanting him badly enough to use their first Rookie pick,.
Dunell is not totally lost at AFL level.
Instead of having 2 late picks , both of them not likely to amount to much, they could get 2 late picks and a player.
Remembering they wont have many ways of getting players into their squad.

Think he had a bad attitude. It happens even in AFL clubs no matter how professional they are.

Wilkinson was okay- he might suit us. That other big guy is it Rory Thompson has taken the key back role. Horsley and weller would have to get another go- both look as good as Josh Caddy who was traded out for a high pick. i guess when you keep getting nuggets and diamonds you eventually have to chuck some silver out.

Ledger and Siposs cannot be cut.

TDL and Dunnell will go before them....

Once a player has had a go as a 23 and 24 year old and not made an impact, it is time to let them go.

Look at the stats... players average SC scores increase dramatically until age 22, increase a little more until 23 then plateau. I know there are exceptions but they are rare and you need to play the percentages...
Ledger and Siposs need a chance to improve.. Ledger should be hitting his peak next year.. a good pre-season and a bigger tank and with the confidence of the last couple of games I am tipping he will play all games next year and be pretty decent...

Siposs needs two more years of development before we consider cutting him lose

Shenton at 23 already needs to be delisted... There are better, younger players at VFL level

I have not seen enough of Lever, Staley, Ferguson. I will say that ferguson was clearly injured when he played his only game... i would say one of them, maybe 2, will be retained.

For mine;
Out TDL Shenton, 1-2 of Lever, Staley, Ferguson, and maybe Dunnell

I don't think you're allowed to use Supercoach scores in a serious football discussion.

Am i the only one that really rates Dunnel?

Didn't have much opportunity this season, solid form at Sandy. Feel he would make a decent medium forward.

Sure, but on average this just highlights what is true... most players keep developing rapidly until around 22-23 years old, then it levels off.. look at Jack Steven, for example.. sure he can improve some more, but not as drmatically has his improvement over the past 2 seasons....

I thought he looked composed found the ball and was ok overhead, not the worst on the list.

Dunnell is not a bad play...

Like Maister, McQualter, Eddy, Rix and other GOP fringe sort of players

You'll know what you'll get with Sam... Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing?!

The main problem with Dunell is that he hasn't got a position. Same as Ray. Not good enough at getting the ball to be midfielders, not hard-working enough to be taggers, not good enough at kicking goals to be forwards, not defensive enough to be backs. They're betwixt and between at AFL level, though at a lower level they'd probably stand out.

I rate him, prefer to lose TDLs and or siposs before him.

No, you're not the only one. I can't believe the lack of respect for Dunnel on this thread. Showed great skill last year; not so many chances this year. If we delist him he'll end up a long-term player elsewhere and it'll be our loss.

Found his lack of opportunity quite frustrating this year...

along with how Ledger was used, this has really made me questions SW ability to properly develop young players. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for ppl being made to earn their spots, if Ledge is retained then he'll be under no illusion RE what he has to do to get a spot and that is only a good thing.

However I simply can't fathom the idea of a player with potential, and solid form not getting a good shot.

Dunnell should have got a lot more games and could have been used a lot better by SW. Strong overhead and smart player. I would definitely develop him as a half forward. Anyway if he stays, good, if he goes then I think we have let go a potentially good player.

VFL team of the year:

B: David Mirra, Evan Panozza, Matt Sully
HB: Sam Iles, Sam Pleming, Ben Jolley
C: Kane Lambert, Chris Cain, Ben Raidme
HF: Mark Corrigan, Scott Simpson, Lachlan George
F: Sam Lloyd, Michael Lourey, Josh Scipione
Foll: Russ Gabriel, John Baird, Troy Selwood
Int: Jared Moore, Scott Sherlock, Steve Clifton, Ben Brown, Daniel Toman, Matt Hellier.

Liston Winners: Mitch Hallahan, Jordan Scroder and Steve Clifton
R/Up: Kane Lambert
Best under 23 Fothergill-Round medal: Kane Lambert
Frosty Miller leading goal kicker: Dean Galea
Coaches player of the year: Alik Mangin

Sam PLEMING, Matt SULLY & Scott SIMPSON could be key defender options for us? It also sounds like Chris CAIN is attracting lots of attention from other clubs...disappointing not one Sandi player making the cut.

So, two of the leagues best and fairest, and the leading goal kicker, don't make the team of the year? Right.......

We could minimise the delistings by swapping Dal and Fisher to GWS for pick 1 and Gilbert to Gold Coast for their 2nd round pick. This would give us four picks in the top 24 for this year. i just hope there is some worthy talent in this year's pool.

It would give us a worse list in 2014 meaning a wooden spoon (and top pick) could be on the cards but a better chance to rise quickly in the following years.

What are your thoughts?

I think GWS wouldnt give us pick one in a fit for those players.

Fisher has 1 season left and Dal 2 maybe 3. GWS are probably 3 years away from finals. Pick 1 will be a 10 year player.

highly unlikely.
