will add those..
Well Bratty, you were lucky to keep your number plates from Peter Temple as he definitely is a Sainter.

Just heard him interviewed on ABC 720 radio here in Perth today (promoting the Jack Irish Serries on telly this week).

Temple said as a South African coming over years ago to Melbourne he was so fascinated with the footy culture and how it totally consumed Melbournites with incredible passion.

He used to sit in pubs listening to the locals talking footy and knew he had to support a team. He was always drawn to the down and out and the unsucessful.

Because Fitzroy were losers but no longer a Melbourne based club, he had to support the unsuccesful Saints. He said, there was no choice I had to follow the Saints and experience their passion. So I'm Saints man he said with all the tribulations that go with that.

Aaaaaah yes Peter we all understand the angst that goes with being a passionate Saint supporter............... thanks for joining our mob.

Can't be bothered reading all this, but has anyone mentioned Cher? I'm sure Molly stuck a Saints guernsey on her back in the day.

JJ - Detective Jeff Johnson was played by Peter Adams.

It tells us on Wikipedia that he was born in New Zealand.
Peter died in 1999, of cancer, at the age of 61.

Gil Tucker (Constable Roy Baker) is /was a Fitzroy fan,
but I was not aware that the biggest star of Cop Shop was a Sainter.

Billy Miller is way more than a celebrity Saint. He is a dyed in the wool through and through Sainter.

Just watched "Shine" and remembered Noah Taylor is a Sainter.

Billy Bragg too, wrote a song with a reference to the Saints I seem to remember.

Yarra Song - Billy Bragg

There's a chill tonight on the Yarra
Winter is creeping in
While far away my loved ones
Wake up in England's spring
And although delights await me
All the way to Flinders Street
It's that little piece of heaven
With which they must compete
When The Saints take on The Magpies
Some day too far away
I barrack for St. Kilda
In that funny game they play
But my heart's not really in it
My mind wanders to a town
Where The Hammers sing "I'm forever blowing bubbles"
And the rain comes pouring down
Yes, it's still raining in England
Guess that's why I like it here
There's a brolly in my hotel room
For when the skies aren't clear
'Cos it never rains in Sydney
And it never rains in Perth
Adelaide's a desert
And Brisbane's just scorched earth
So excuse me please such days as there
And send me to the town
Where the children sing when St. Kilda win
And the rain comes falling down
So wake me up tomorrow
And send me home again
To where The Hammers sing "I'm forever blowing bubbles"
In the pouring London rain

In 1977 a tall young lad named Gerard Cahir came down from Ballarat.

In Round 1 against the Bombers at Windy Hill, Gerard played in the Reserves and kicked 6 goals in half a game. Very impressive stuff.

The following week we played the Cats at Moorabbin and once again the youngster lined up with the dew kickers. At half time, as I stood on the sparsely populated Linton Street terrace, I was approached by the lead singer of the popular Melbourne band The Ferrets who asked me, "How many has number 33 kicked?" Unfortunately I had to respond that he had kicked none.

It was an early brush with fame for a young Dr Spaceman.

True story :D

I note you had Channel 9 news reader Brian Hitchener in your list Bratty. Here is a bit from todays Media Supplement in the Oz wher a celeb is asked 10 questions. The final question he was asked about was:

Which yarn from your career are you still talking about?

Hitchener's reply:

When I started at 4BH news in Brisbane, I covered the visit of President Lydon B Johnson, LBJ, to Australia. Then at the ABC, the anti-conscription rallies, the Vietnam War and the disappearance of Harold Holt: and, since joining Nine, the dismissal of Gough Whitlam, any number of elections, royal weddings, bushfires, the America's Cup win, grand finals....... There have been countless great stories over the years, but mostly I'm just looking forward to the next one, I just hope I can report a St Kilda premiership win before I retire.

Don't we all Peter? Dont we all hope you get that wish?!!!!!!!

Yes, he was and the club sent a group of players to attend his funeral and help carry out the coffin after the service.

I can vaguely remember way back in the 80s, Steven Tandy who played Tom Sullivan in "The Sullivans" declared himself to be a Saints supporter, just before he appeared on "Carols by Candlelight" and gave one of the all time worst performances.
