With all due respect none of us would have any idea whether Harvey is a good coach or not. We have not been privy to his philosophies, not seen him in action so really based on external perceptions and media BS.
He was a champion player of the AFL / VFL and may or maynot be a great coach. IF he needs to go to become a better coach then best wishes, if he can add something to the coaching panel then i hope he stays as the team will be better for it.
The name and legend is irrelevant in this decision, however the name and legend means whatever decision is made it must be done with respect and honour.

Might have been a bit difficult to get Watters, Hinkley or Richardson to take the caretaker role at such short notice!sainter66 wrote:Unfortunately he should never been appointed care taker coach when there was no possibility he would be seriously considered for the permanent position.
It was a caretaker role done in 5 minutes. Even Harves would know the appointment of a senior coach is going to take much longer and be much more thorough and that the net would be cast nation wide.
If he thought getting the temporary gig meant he should have got the permanent gig then he's being delusional. However as he's never actually said anything, or been directly quoted, I'm not going to make that diagnosis at this stage.

Did we really need to officially appoint a caretaker coach at all?Dr Spaceman wrote:Might have been a bit difficult to get Watters, Hinkley or Richardson to take the caretaker role at such short notice!sainter66 wrote:Unfortunately he should never been appointed care taker coach when there was no possibility he would be seriously considered for the permanent position.

Seems to me it was a knee-jerk panicked response... go to the club legend and use his name to quell the hoards.
And by elevating an assistant to caretaker, traditionally you are giving them an inside run at the full-time gig... now he's been put in a Rudd-like position, accept 'demotion' back to assistant, or leave.
On top of that (my mail) is the way he was initially treated, which can only be described as poorly, and Harvey felt disrespected (which seems apparent).
If he cant coach why are the filth after him?
Did we hire him without a longterm plan in mind?
I like the idea of him coaching Sandy and/or being seriously groomed for the senior gig... but I think (fear) it's all a bit past that now.

The thought of a club legend going to coach at another club used to make me sick to my stomach... Spud going to the filth, Max the same...
I'm a bit ho hum about Banger leaving. We all love the great man but I couldn't give two hoots if he goes. If he is upset about missing out & prepared to leave then the success of StK is obviously secondary to him.
I suppose after getting smashed by the filth in a GF there is nothing is footy that hurts as much.

Shivers I don't know how many times this has been postedstkildathunda wrote:You do know Carlton gave him the flick dont you? I am happy to report that Carlton rated his coaching very highly and were quite dissapointed to lose him and his input when he left to come here.

Harvey's contract not renewed (at Carlton) does not mean he was not a valued asst coach.....
Carlton also released Montgomery and Lappin - (Teague had a P/T role as North Bullants coach and sought a F/T coaching job) where are they now, were they discarded to the footy scrapheap?
Harvey went to last year's runner up
Teague is asst coach at WCE
Montgomery was in the mix for the Port job and is now asst at WB
Lappin went to last year's premiers
Every year there is a merry go round of assistants changing clubs, some of these guys like Barker, Montgomery, Richardson and Wellman are quite young, yet have been to 2-3 clubs at least..
Even this year several have already changed clubs.
Fine if folks want to can say he may not make a senior coach - but stop using this damn leaving Carlton reason
No Contract, No contact

Francis leach - SEN sainter said he had spoken to him today-
and the process confirmed for Harves he does wish to coach.
he has no idea of what was said or not to Harves through the process.
BUt in no way is he ' throwing the toys out of the cot' so to speak.
weighing up his options.
and he will speak when he is ready.
