I have mentioned that incident on here for a few times, I can't let go. He has tarnished his image in my eyes for ever since. Stremple was interviewed probably about 5 years ago and still sounded traumatised.

Robert Walls is a negative voice with outdated opinions and an inconsistent attitude. Good riddance hope he gets some karma.

I remember Robert ? can't remember his name we got from the Swans had been made to crawl multiple laps of the scg as punishment in the mid 90s era. Good coaching

One incident which typifies Dawson in my view was when Cloke kicked out on the full against us in our most recent match at the MCG.

Dawson approached from behind, looking timid and gave Cloke the elbow into the back.

From there on Cloke treated Dawson as a rag doll - as we all saw.

So why does Dawson tip toe up and make a pathetic show of making his presence felt on occasions such as Cloke kicking out on the full?

Simply, Dawson is not an aggressive footballer.

He almost appears apologetic.

He has the body size to hold down full back and he has some closing speed - but in terms of the required physicality to hold down that vital position he does not tick a box.

Then there is the exclusive left sided disposition - so when he is behind the contest (often is) and receives the opposition know he is only going to go one way.

The real problem here is that he can not turn to the safety of the boundary - he has to go exclusively onto the left arc despite that opening up the goal corridor.

I would feel far more comfortable with an alternate option for full back.

I agree that, on seeing Walsh on the ABC game, he has a long way to go.

So the only option we appear to have is Johnson - who does have the size, the pace and the physicality.

Gwilt does not have the height - but at least he can turn both ways (including to get onto his left foot) plus has really improved off the right side in case of need.

I can't remember any Swans coach making his team do that, but the story of Don Scott making the SANFL team he coached crawl laps of the oval as punishment in training is legendary.

Suffice to say, that Scott's team won the wooden spoon

Thanks for the transcript. Gee wiz! I think I was overseas when that came out. That's absolutely shocking: what a disgrace!!! And to think that Walls used to be a schoolteacher, too! I hope he never did that sort of s&@t to some, poor vulnerable kid.

He truly is a dinosaur.

Yes but:

"This man (Walls) is a premiership player, he's a premiership coach, he's an AFL Hall of Famer, and to have a lightweight like Zac Dawson come out ... come on, this bloke deserves a little bit more respect."

Obviously some believe that if you were a good footballer then none of that other stuff matters

I agree, although I think you do have to respect Walls as a player: I thought he was a really terrific one. Some on here seem to be so blinded by their (understandable) antipathy towards Carlton that they can't even see that.

i disagree...he is a prick...and was a sniper as a footballer...one day he flattened a saints player...smith or trott.....can't remember which.....cowboy told me that barry lawrence came up to him and said that the prick always turned one way.....and that next time he got the ball..to stay on his hammer and leave the rest to him (lawrence).......walls, the big girls blouse, didn't even see him coming...they carried the see you next tuesday off on a stretcher.....one of my fondest memories of the saints playing against those cheats.....

if this feud between dawson and walls continues, all zac has to say is something along the lines "yes robert, i'm sure as hell glad i didn't have you as a coach. if i did, i may have ended up like shane stremble"

you'd think that would pretty well shut walls up.

ah, robbie, not to be confused with "scratcher"

like scratcher, robbie wound up a saint. played in our 1997 grand final. thought he was quite a handy defender for the most part.

although, i view crawling laps of an oval as quite odd, it is fairly hamless when compared with robert walls' workplace bully-style initiation.

to think walls was once a school teacher. that man shaping young minds?!?!

well said, sting. walls is and was a prick through-and-through.

any old tom, dick or harry could have coached that carlton team of the 80's to flag.

if he had have coached fitzroy to a flag, maybe we could look back in awe of his coaching career as being revolutionary to the game.

but his coaching records at brisbane and richmond didn't exactly set the world on fire.
