Two days ago I started the "Eight Weeks for Bakes" thread. It was supposed to be a joke.

Even going on the precedents, I thought eight weeks was at the far side of absurd.

Breathtaking.

What do Baker's charges consist of?

Most of the so called strikes by Baker were below the level of force to constitue a strike.
The club must fight this all the way -Baker was totally screwed last time when there was no video evidence.
He was also suspended for attempting to strike -who else has been suspended for that?
Johnson can receive a paltry 2 weeks for splitting Baker's eye open.

Certainly not SJ, he'd have another couple charges if that were the case.

I can't believe that playful banter ended like this - the players had a smile on their face at the end of the game, I could cop a couple of weeks under these absurd soft rules - but this ruling is seriously taking the piss.

Words cannot express how p***ed off i am right now.
I'm sure everyone here feels the same.

Is this the AFL trying to make a statement on niggling tactics of taggers?

When i saw the headline on the newswire just now i thought it simply had to be a typo.

Still in shock.
Absolute shock.

Agree he deserved a couple of weeks but surely not 12 week's this is by far a ridiculas decision made by the AFL. fight it bake's Johnson Shouldnt have been playing with a broken hand if this was the case, yes you should not have been hitting it, but then johnson shouldnt have been doing what he was doing in the first BOUNCE!

also mooney should get atleast a month for what he did to blakey in the first Q, the ump was right there watching

In the Collingwood game they came out and smashed us before the bounce....all off the ball, concerted nasty attacks. Absolutely nothing happened as a result.

Disgrace.....

Yep Harry O ran straight at CJ before the ball was bounced.....nothing happened. Of course collingwoods "tactics" were covered up by MM and Milney's spat. Convenient that

2 weeks for the elbow???????? wtf? Would like to see the break down of that.

Intentional head contact, high impact. Fairly sure that is more than 2 weeks, it closed Bakers eye ffs.

This system is a joke.

Be hard pressed to find a person who has been shafted more times by the Tribunal/MRP.

Kicking charge - Essendon ruckman, Steve Alessio, deliberately put his full weight on Baker's ankle as Bakes was lying on the ground. Bakes tapped him with a foot to get him off. Baker supended.

Attempted Striking on Stafford - From memory, Stafford had just cleaned up BJ in a none too legal fashion (but escaped charge) Stevie flew the flag and did not hit the bloke but got done for attempted striking. Probably the only person (or did Lynch get a couple tacked on for it in his last game?) to be done on this charge in recent history.

The no vision, Freo lie there a$$ off suspension - The long and the short of it being Farmer runs into Baker and Baker gets a longer suspension than Hall did for the punch on Staker.

And now this piece of putrid crap. It seems that, suddenly, the definition of negligible force has been revised back to that which saw the G-Train suspended for giving Cloke a tummy-tap. Meanwhile they somehow manage to come up with "medium" as the definition of impact for the strike that closed up Baker's eye?

The current situation with the MRP is farcical. We might almost have a case to put in at HREOC on the basis of persecution for having the name, "Steven Baker".

At first I laughed loudly when I read this, the sheer ridiculousness of this decision, well laughable.

Now I am just angry about. Are the AFL serious...this then must change football forever. No longer can there be any niggle or tagging in the AFL. With this decision those days are gone. He may as well have king hit a couple of players and got 6 weeks each time!

I think this is one we cannot take lying down...it just lacks any form of reason or sense.

Plugger, come and explain this one for us...please....I just cannot understand it.

Anyone have a breakdown of the charges and how they were assessed?
