White people are wankers.

Should I be shot down?

Maybe some should just realise that words are just that and we can take intended meaning any way we want to suit our own beliefs or agenda's.
What you say about whitey and wanking is probably largely true.

But are aborigines cannibals?

Come on. You'll have to do better than that.

It hurt my heart to think that the great Nicky Winmar, one of my life's idols, was being vilified again. I immediately thought of how terribly he was abused at Victoria Park that day, and how he raised his jumper and touched his skin... for one of my heros to have to do that, as a response to racism,
touched me deeply. One of the most indelible and iconic sporting images of my life. And then for him to be picked on again, many years after he has left the sporting arena, really upset me. I was hurt for him. He is a great man who has struggled with a lot of adversity and to demean him in this way, was just so so out of line. Unforgivable.

Some were, especially the Ngarrindjeri people of the Coorong, they thought the Chinese to be a delicacy.

Great footballer, great image, great historical moment in indigenous history, but great man? Not in my eyes. Would anyone consider him a great man if he wasn't such a talented footballer?

What about dumb dumb's or is that racist?

This is all a little too politically correct for my liking.
I will probably regret debating with the likes of you, but generalising about any race of people is offensive.

Brown implied that the Aboriginal players he played with were savages.

That is racist, pure and simple.

There is a difference.

This might surprise you, GO but I absolutely agree with that.

I copped it in school and sport for my race, and still get the odd jibe at work.

You train yourself to laugh but it is pure and simple racism because if I wasn't a certain race, they wouldn't say it.

He needs to apologise and quickly.

I agree that what he said was totally inappropriate. Just as Andrew Johns' comments were.

Brown claims he is not a racist. Ray Warren says he knows Johns well and says he is not a racist either.

It's a sad state of affairs when these people have difficulty linking these
statements to racism.

It's plainly obvious to anyone of any intelligence at all that these comments are racist.

Which brings me to conclude that Brown is such a small talent with limited
employment opportunities that he needs to resort to this sort of "wit"
to make a dollar !

I can't imagine paying $90 to listen to him.

Well maybe they were savages?

If he was implying all indigenous Australians were then he is off the mark however his son is a savage, so is Goddard.

Infact Goddard is a pasty red haired savage

Am I racist now?

So referring to our legend, Nicky Winmar, and Michael Mitchell as cannibals who he couldn't see in the dark because of their skin colour is not racist?

I think you are playing semantics with the Goddard reference, and sadly I think you are racist if you can't see that.

I guess that means it's instinctive for him to be racist then, if he has to think in order not to be?

I played golf, many years ago, with Sir Garfield Sobers, in a charity comp at Royal Melbourne. We hit off just after dawn and it was still pretty dark. Gary hit off first and sent it straight down the middle of the fairway. One of the others in the group asked Gary if he'd seen where it went. Sir Garfield replied "Don't worry us jungle bunnies can see in the dark". Was he being racist?

So it's okay for racists to be racists about themselves right?

Firstly that sounds like it was 40 years and ago and secondly heaps of dark people have a go at other dark people or themselves about the colour of their skin. Doesnt mean everyone else can jump in.

It wasn't 40 years ago. Maybe 25 years ago.
Gary Sobers is a great cricketer and a wonderful person and he was making a joke at his own expense.
Mal Brown was making a joke, which turned out to be at his own expense. He is not a racist.

I agree. He's a fool and a loudmouth, but i'll bet he has more Aboriginal friends than most of the do-gooders on here.

That would come from 40 years of playing football with them, coaching them and mixing with them in his hometown of Perth, where he reportedly is well liked by the Aboriginal community.

So he made a stupid comment at a sportsman's night. Big deal. Someone always does.

When you look at anything like this you have to look at intent and i don't think there was any malice whatsoever.

It was a poor and regrettable attempt at humour.

I met Sir Garfield Sobers in 1999 and he was a gentleman and quite the intellectual.

Regardless of that I was almost shell-shocked to be having a conversation with the man I read so much about.
