Actually the free kick count was 29 to the Swans and 18 to us!!!!plugger66 wrote:5 frees from goals to us and 2 to them. I know ours were there and theres werent. Also they got more frees around the ground. I know all frees should be equal at the end of the game if not us slightly ahead.I Love Peter Kiel wrote:Great comments everyone. these commentators are all fl*gs the way they bump up Sydney.
I went up for the game and it was a great win. We were playing against 25 players...the Swans plus the three umpires.

And here's another unbiased opinion on the game, courtesy of "The Age"

The guy actually sounds a lot like the TV Freak from the ABC although I've heard he's a Saints fan.

After watching the Age comments you can only imagine the AFL has asked the media in the interest of the national competition to talk favorably about AFL in NSW. You would think from that, the Swans were playing themselves and they were the flag favorites- what shitty journalism.
It's a good thing Luke Darcy is on the rules of the game commission and has an anti Riewoldt vendetta. I loved how he says Nick faked the push in the back when a guy runs in and hits him from behind. How is he supposed to know the guy is coming and fall forward in the same movement? he either has extraordinary powers of peripheral vision or he is so highly set for bumps that he stays perpetually off balance hoping that contact is made. On Darcys replay they slowed the footage down trying to make it look like he had a reaction time from the bump. Poor petty excuse for a journalist and teamed with Walls FFS.
Hope the Dogs implode for him and he gets his karma. He may want to look at his mate Brian Lake an ordinary guy who ransomed his team who dont have any money and then shot them in the heart in the finals -clean up your own backyard before you look over the fence Darcy.

Nick got another free for a push in the back tonight (off the ball).
After the game, darcy had an opportunity to talk about this decision (and last weeks).
He suggested the decision should be play on.
I guess he just doesn't understand the rules of the game.

Not what he said at all. He said it had no impact on the game and could have been overlooked, but with the precedent of last week Hansen was dumb.Sainterone wrote:Nick got another free for a push in the back tonight (off the ball).

I don't like Luke as a commentator, but at least be fair to him.

Watching the game on ch.10 was yet another frustrating experiance.
Blight seriously sounded like a pissed of fan calling a talk back radio show most of the night, Walls was too intrested in trying to make Quatermain look stupid, Quatermain was apparently doing he best to help Walls and Tim Lane was again at his Saint hating best.
I thaught "at least we have been spared Darcy" but the fool was on the 5th quarter bitching about Roo and the free kicks he gets.
I realise the media (for some reason) are never going to treat us like their heros at Geelong or Collingwood but damn it pisses me off anyway

They treat us exactly the same as any other side. Its just the paranoia that makes you think differently.Hurricane wrote:Watching the game on ch.10 was yet another frustrating experiance.

Gawd- Ch 10 commentators are hopeless. I don't really mind Walls, but he has to put up with jibberish from the others on the panel. Blight sounds like his mind is elsewhere -like when he was coaching us. They had to agree though, that the stupid free for pushing Roo in the back off the play, was totally correct.

I thought last night they continually stuck it to north. Especially Blighty, he was critical of Scott and their tactics, their lack of having a go and especially Harvey. They were on his case for the entire second half.
I think you giys need to really listen and not just be continually paranoid.
They certainly praised the saints more than any paper media have done this morning.

Just interested P66 to know whether you agree with Darcy?plugger66 wrote:They treat us exactly the same as any other side. Its just the paranoia that makes you think differently.Hurricane wrote:Watching the game on ch.10 was yet another frustrating experiance.

Personally I think this is a concerted effort by Darcy to highlight that Riewoldt gets alot of free kicks and that the majority are staged so that when his beloved Dogs play us through the year his old team mates will be able to play outside the rules believing the umpires will second guess themselves when assessing the validity of a free to Roo.
I can't imagine him targetting his mate Johnno or Brent Harvey in this fashion...it is an amzing stance from someone on the rules committee.
I believe he's wasting his time and only hurting his stance within the media but I do find it perplexing that he can believe Roo staged for the free against Mattner and the one against Hansen.

I think it has more to do with bitterness over a certain free that his mate, Brian Lake, gave away in the PF last year. His reaction to Mattner dropping his shoulder into Riewoldt's back seemed less about that incident than the one last September. Darcy claimed there are 100 instances like that every week. I struggle to think of one. The pushing and shoving happens every weak. Running up and hitting the oppositions best player from behind doesn't. It is such a cowardly thing to do. Seems strange that Darcy would defend it, unless you consider Lake.Ghost Like wrote:Personally I think this is a concerted effort by Darcy to highlight that Riewoldt gets alot of free kicks and that the majority are staged so that when his beloved Dogs play us through the year his old team mates will be able to play outside the rules believing the umpires will second guess themselves when assessing the validity of a free to Roo.
I'm amazed at the amount of work other teams put into Riewoldt off the ball. Is there any evidence that it has any effect other than irritating the umpires? Roo certainly doesn't seem to be any worse off for it.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

And they were really willing McEvoy to get a disposal in the last few minutes to make Harvey the lowest possession getter on the ground.terry smith rules wrote:I thought last night they continually stuck it to north. Last week the commentary was typical of any involving Sydney... probably because Ten televise so many Swans Saturday night games that they feel like the Swans are a second team for them.
After watching the replay of last night I had no dramas whatsoever with the commentary.
If I was a North supporter I'd be very dirty of a club great like Blight who sunk the boots in at every opportunity & even questioned whether Scott was man enough to be a coach! Whacko!

I thought Quatermain was going to have a baby when Blake got caught in the opening spell. Mostly they're just dickheads in a box talking shite and getting excited buffing each other's nobs. Seven are just as bad but a little more archaic in my view. Wished they'd use professional commentators aka the radio. I feel like the entire broadcast is behind the times. The yanks have the best commentators, have a zillion cameras, and show the best stats. What have we got? Slow mo cam! Wahey.
