What you do with Clint Jones interests me. Swan has come a long way since we last met and has become a far more damaging player. Teams have been electing to tag him over Didak and Davis in the last month and rightly so...he is leading our score involvements and goal assists. Continually sneaks under the radar.
But, you are right in saying that 25 Davis possessions is going to have a bigger impact. I think if Jones went to Davis that Davis should go straight up forward and try to exploit Jones here.
O'Brien did have a shocker against the Saints last time they played...but I thought it more came down to not sticking to the task for 4 quarters. Ultimately he spent most of his time on Milne. He had him covered most of the time...but let him off the leash 4 times. Against a guy like Milne you can't even be complacent once because he'll make you pay.
Like a lot of the defensive matchup's from Round 7, I think a lot of the blame had to go to our midfield which got smacked. The defenders didn't have much hope. I thought they stuck to their jobs even though there was not one winner on the night.
i think both the Saints and Pies have 2 of the most solid defensive units going around. On paper at the start of the year, they each looked like weaknesses, but have developed into cohesive units throughout.
I can't wait.

Absolutely in favour of CJ going to Davis...as I agree that if Davis were to get 25 effective possessions, he'll get 5 goals. Swan accues a lot of disposal down back (obviously) and is very effective in setting up plays, particularly via guys like Didak and Thomas...but our defensive pressure can shut these guys down before it turns into attack (with any luck).DaVe86 wrote:What you do with Clint Jones interests me. Not forgetting that we have Mini and now Dempster to perform shutdown roles, each with scoring potential around our forward line...either one of these to Swan?

I like your form, Dave... 2 points off is a pretty good guess.DaVe86 wrote:Therefore, no mucking around this week...the Saints by 30.
As we all know by now - Gram > Swan, Jones > Didak, Baker > Davis. No answer for Hayes, Montagna, Ray, Goddard in the midfield, or Fisher and Gilbert in the back.
Can't really say if the Pies had a bad day because this is what this year's Saints do to oppositions... give them a bad day.
"... You want to pose a threat to the opposition in as many ways as you can, both defensively and offensively. We've got a responsibility to explore all those possibilities - and we will."
