Of course anyone can draft him but as we may only have 2-3 picks I doubt very much it will be us.

Poor prior list management ...

Post: # 665959Post WinnersOnly »

I can see why the club has moved DRAIN into a full time List Management position as the SAINTS have been very poor at this in the past. For a number of years the SAINTS have had too many players on the list who are obviously not going to play consistent senior football and will be a long term benefit to the club.

These positions should be filled by developing younger players who get their 3-4 years to find their senior position and if they haven't in that time trade them or delist them.

For example last year we had RIX, FIORA, BIRSS, L. FISHER, C. GARDINER, McQUALTER, FERGUSSON, X CLARKE who have gone beyond development players - players who are never going to win you senior games of footy and are basically just clogging up the development of younger players.

Every year we keep these dead wood on the list puts the club another year behind they could have had developing a younger player.

SAINTS need to be smarter at the back end of their list and cull much earlier than they do!

SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

I would rather have birss than fiora, i really liked birss... and attard as well although i wasn't a big footy fan last year... i guess this is it, STKFC must be preparing for one of their last premiership campaigns before rebuilding and there cant be questions over anyone at all on the list

I'm surprised that we delisted so few. It looks like we'll be adding three kids to the senior list, a long way off RL's stated plan of six. I'm disappointed because 1) it's a very good draft, unlikely to be matched in the next few years and 2) There are several players still on the list who can't be counted on to make any kind of impact in 09 or beyond.

Drain has been at the club for a short time and has already been moved to another position.Maybe Archie is not totally impressed with Drain's style or maybe they just think Hutchison is better credentialed for that role.

Ray would effectively be Drain's first effort as List Manager, even if the position wasn't officially his at the time ,it was his call to recruit him according to the man with the questionable gait......

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I sincerely bloody hope so! You stated similar in another thread and your track record is top notch if memory serves..

...But hang on - doesn't the final list have to be lodged with the AFL BEFORE they make a decision on whether BC can play again?

Those who are supriesed at L. Fisher, I think form memory he signed a 3 year deal after playing all games last season, so he still has 2 years remaining on his contract, there is no way a player will be paid out for 2 years when your on 200k+ a year

Contracts have a lot to do with delistings....especially if we are close to the TPP....

all of them (delistings) will be GUN VFL players......aqnd we should try and entice some to Sandy, to make us a powerful VFL team......always helps development, being a part of success...

Good luck to Fiora in 2009 - I will give you my support, I will bag you when you make poor decisions, but will also praise your good play (a thing many on here cannot stomach to do)

Outs (senior list) 6
Gehrig, Harvey, Gardiner, Ferguson, Rix, Birss

Ins (senior list) 6
Ray, Eddy, DP#13, DP#47, DP#48, DP#63 (cousins?)

Outs (Rookie List) 4
Eddy (promoted), Chivers, Van Reenan, Attard (stiff)

Retained/Ins(rookie list) 4
McQualter (promoted to replace Dempster on the senior list), Miles, Haretuku, Pick #13 RD, Pick #29 RD, Pick #45 RD, NSW scholarship Rookie (McGrath)

Good to know. But is the club prepared to cop the $100-150,000 black hole that Fiora's delisting would create?
RedWhiteBlack wrote:Did anyone consider the fact that Attard's knee might be seriously rooted??

He might be a promising young player, but there's no point in signing him if medical staff think his potential career will be constantly disrupted by injury.
I think the problem Attard had is that he's not a top line player anyway, and he's very much a one-trick pony - tag or nothing.

Couldn't win the footy and broke even on shut-down jobs. Now he's battling a knee injury. The club was right to keep him on in 2008 and help him through his rehab, but that was more than enough.

didn't lyon say that he was going to use ALL 6 picks in this national draft? so i don't expect will use our first 3 draft picks then elevate 3 rookies who won't win us a premiership

Eddy has been promoted - do the math

How can we use 6 picks when
Eddy has come off the RL
Ray has taken ONE spot

That leaves FOUR selections max....

He ever stated that he was going to use ALL 6 picks in the national draft...

I think he stated that he was going to use all the picks available to pick up kids...

That means the National Draft and the rookie draft...

So, by that it may possibly mean that Cousins may get picked up in the PSD..

I would somehow doubt that Cousins would nominate himself in the National Draft

If L Fisher's contract expires this year, he is very lucky and Birss is so unlucky IMO

Birss had a far better season than L Fisher

So we delisted a few fringe players that seriously were not going to make a hell of a difference to our premiership chances

Sure we could argue forever as to who was lucky and who was unlucky however I doubt any of the players delisted will be picked up by another club - and even if they are I seriously doubt that any will go on make a lasting contribution that will come back to bite us on the bum - so really who cares!! (harsh i know but ....)

Lyon and co obviously know more than we do and I am sure the decision as to who was to be cut was not taken lightly

Thanks to those players for their contribution and lets show a little bit of faith in those making the decisions

Cue a rant from B4E about the numbnuts running the club.

Just another topic for the AGM....Belvedere Park and Michael Rix.

Should be an entertaining meeting.

Don't forget Matthew Ferguson. This may just tip him over the edge!

A very sad day, what am I to do with a wardrobe full of St.kilda jumpers with 29 on the back, I wonder :?

Rix was obviously just about to blossom into an All Australian ruckman and Ferguson was just never played in position and mostly never played, never got a fair dinkum go.

But this all pales into insignificance, when our club has been shafted by the new board, relocating to Seaford, what an absolute joke, fair dinkum, not only have the club lost it's data base, the current admin have fair dinkum, lost their marbles!

McQualter - I was disappointed in his delisting last year but it looks like he's just not good enough. Too small, slow, etc.
Fiora - Who gave him a two-year deal? Crazy.
Gwilt - I don't think he'll ever be a frequent contributor.
L Fisher - Hardly played this year. Was he contracted? Should have been cut if not.
Agree, these players would never be on a strong list.

Lyon was quoted as saying this after the Farren Ray trade:

http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/ ... wsId=68880

'We came in with a strong plan that we wanted six picks in the national draft.'

He may have been misquoted, he may not have said exactly what he meant, he may have been posturing for some reason. I'm not sure what exactly was the case, but I was certainly left under the impression we'd go beyond the bare minimum of three. Right now it looks like three plus Cousins.
