Re: Ins and Outs
Well, who are we going to allow to have free reign on the half back line to collect 40 possessions while nobody goes within 30 feet of him?
That will upset Ross's gameplan. It is obviously a key component to it as he allows it every week.

Re: Ins and Outs
So if the Schoonerskuller debuts that's all our draft picks from last year playing at senior level ... all by R9
Not sure any other club has managed this so far this year

Re: Ins and Outs
Schoenmaker
The AFL would like it, marketing ahead of THEIR new team.
It is a Hawthorn home game so any improved interest in the game accrues to them, not St Kilda
No commercial benefit for St Kilda other than having him play for the team's benefit.
I hope it happens because I want to see how he goes at senior level.

Re: Ins and Outs
Dow probably has not earned a game but whoever he would replace certainly has not either.
Better to run him into form at St Kilda than Sandringham.

I’d be excited to see Schoenmaker play…

Re: Ins and Outs
Dow was very good for Sandringham. So was Zak Jones. Sharman was nearly best on ground
I'm glad Pou has been dropped. Playing him every week was really poor by the St Kilda coaching group and not good for his development
Should have been managed a couple of times late last year too. His form dropped off and has never been up to standard since...
And yet they wanted him in the team every week.
The best thing for him right now would be to rest and then play 2 full games at Sandy and get 25+ before being selected for the seniors

Re: Ins and Outs
I don't agree with Paton being preferred over Dow. Paton was ok but I reckon Lyon wants him for a tagging or run with role
Hawthorn have a pretty good midfield so not a bad strategy, but we recruitd Dow for our midfield.
With Crouch out, we need to see if Dow can improve our clearances.
We should be trying to beat them rather than just restrict them
We should be giving Paddy Dow the opportunity to get used to playing with Steele, Henry, Windhager, Sinclair and Marshall

When Dow's ready, they probably will. One or 2 more games yet.Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 09 May 2024 7:48pm I don't agree with Paton being preferred over Dow. Paton was ok but I reckon Lyon wants him for a tagging or run with role

Re: Ins and Outs
Ross never tries to beat anybody, it is always structured around restricting the opposition.

Why did Liam Henry get a game straight into the seniors without a hit up with the VFL squad?
He was seriously out of touch. Hastie and Garcia got double the amount of possessions of Henry
Poor selection from match committee when Dow was influential in his first game back at Sandringham
We could have played Jones or even a banged up Clark. Not sure if he’s going to line up for Sandy, but if he is, and if he was fit enough to have a hit out with the reserves, then why mot play Clark against the Hawks in Tassie?

Re: Ins and Outs
Barring injury , sure Dow comes in vs Freo.
Play Battle up forward next week, and bring big Arie in.
Garcia looks ready for a spell in the 2s - and same could be said for Hastie

Re: Ins and Outs
It was interesting at training on Thursday seeing SOS working with Arie and 2 other players on their defensive techniques, body positioning etc.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Ins and Outs
If we are still trying for finals, we have to bring in Dow, Jones (potentially sub), and Schoenmaker (a back) or Collard (a forward) (neither may not be ready, but both probably provide more attacking flare).
And drop Hastie (not ready), Garcia (who I've been impressed with) Paton (who brought nothing as sub).
I'd also considering swapping Membrey and Sharman.

Re: Ins and Outs
I thought Paton was influential in the second half despite not touching the ball too much. Had some physicality which we are seriously lacking.
