Approx 2 week lay off, shouldn't derail his preseason too much fingers crossed

Re: Injury update
Yes or no
Has he won a flag????
Not just came close
Chris Fagan came close, Nathan Buckley came close… at the end of the day he’s had 14 seasons in the AFL - as Senior Coach and has coached 329 games without a premiership
Winning 55% of games
Ok record - doesn’t scream greatness

Re: Injury update
Your argument is so simplistic it’s seriously laughable. Roo played over 300 games, never played a great GF never played in a winning one. Does that make him average? Not in my eyes. Best CHF of his generation as far as I’m concerned.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 12 Feb 2024 9:30pm Yes or no

There’s so much more to being a great coach. Getting the best out of the group of players at your disposal is surely the best criteria for judging?
He’s the only coach to even come close to a flag at Freo. In the last 25 years he’s the only coach to get the Saints into a GF. If flags are the main criteria for judging, then Saints have only had one decent coach in over 100 years of existence.
If Dimma is such a great coach, why isn’t he still coaching Richmond. He was a brilliant coach for the period he was there, but no coach lasts forever. Players get tired of the voice, the routine, etc. His record at two fledgling clubs is either the 2nd best ever or best ever.

Re: Injury update
Roo is not responsible for the entire team - he is one player
Coaches are responsible for results
I don’t agree that premierships determine players greatness
I somewhat agree that coaches success is measured by premierships

Re: Injury update
Correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t you been telling us for years that coaches are over rated and it’s all about the list that wins flags. Now, apparently, the list is irrelevant and a great coach wins flags regardless….

I thought coaches didn't matter, now they are responsible for results. You're the gift that never stops giving. PMSL.

Re: Injury update
When did I say that Coaches don’t matter?
I have said they can’t succeed without the talent needed to win games.
But
Ultimately at the end of the day they are judged by how many premierships they have won.
Do you think Ross has never coached a premiership list?

Re: Injury update
The book of excuses for the Saints not winning premierships is a big one. At this level, coaches are measured by premierships and if a coach has a team capable of going all the way, yet the team fails at the last hurdle, then generally the coach wears it. Lyon is in the cooda-been group of coaches at the moment, and I don't think Bassat will have a lot of patience if we don't get there quickly.

Re: Injury update
Ross Lyon has never senior coached a premiership list. That's a fact.
Nick Riewoldt and a few others underperformed in Grand Finals.
Luke Ball gave away strategic information.
You haven't said coaches don't matter.
What you have said is they're overrated.
I guess that only counts in home and away matches. Then they are accountable for the loss, even though their coaching record leading into those finals was outstanding.
Players lose Grand finals, Geelong and Collingwood's list were better. Fact.

Re: Injury update
We finished on top in 2009 with a 19-3 record
We had multiple All Australians
We beat Geelong in the HA

Re: Injury update
I agree with BM. We were clearly the better side in 2009 and if the guys had kicked straight, if Ball had been given minutes after half time and if the ball bounced true , we would have had our second flag.
And I haven't even gone close to mentioning what the guys who led to the druggies troubles, were doing down at Sleepy Hollow at the time.

Re: Injury update
Hmmm. Lyon can't be blamed for the 7.7 first half and 2.7 to 5.7 in the second half.
From round 16, when it matters, Geelong finished stronger.
If the Bulldags kicked straight we would have been on holiday and our era would have been halved.
Better coach-better list. Does it matter?
Lets see how this Lyon era goes.

Re: Injury update
The only time of the game where I thought we had the game in the bag was in the second quarter (I think) when tumour circulated our part of the ground that Chapman had torn his hammy and was out for the rest of the match.
Everyone carried on about Ablett but he never really tore it up against us… Chapman was the one that we had no answers for and was deadly.
No way they win without him I thought.
Then he comes back following that practice that is now banned and I am reminded again (unfortunately) as to how great my instincts are

Re: Injury update
Not enough has ever been made of this point and for all the obvious reasons....but it doesn't get any more St Kilda.
Our dumb faaaaaaark knuckle head supporters cost us a second flag...actual supporters impacting a game...you couldn't make it up but our marketing department could probably make a souvenir edition DVD and sell thousands of copies as an apendium to the 10 game winning streak DVD from the same year.
Ask any Port player from that game and they will tell you we had them cooked and that delay in the game let them come to a huddle and regroup and compose themselves.
Charlie Dixon has told me personally that it's folklore at Port ...no wonder Port know they own us.
Ya gotta laugh at this stuff if you follow our club.

Re: Injury update
Yep, I was at the game with 2 mates. We just stood and watched in disbelief at what was happening. A dream opening culminating in the G train kicking his 100th was about to be handed back to Port by our own supportersVortex wrote: ↑Thu 15 Feb 2024 4:13am
