Gawn didn't hit his straps until he was 23.
Nic Nat, who is a freak, was still struggling for consistency at 21/22.
Grundy didn't hit his straps until he was 22/23.

I think we need to be extremely patient with Heath.
Luke Jackson (Melbourne) drafted in 2019 and has cemented a spot in the ruck with Max Gawn in only his 2nd year.

I am confident Max Heath will break into the seniors at some stage in his 1st year and believe he will be like Luke Darcy (Freo) and become #1 ruckman in his 4th year latest!

Next year's ruck stocks will be Ryder, Marshall, Xerri and Heath (assume Hunter will be delisted) which looks pretty good to me.

Peter Ladhams would have been a good "in" but obviously beyong St Kilda's means to meet the asking price.

The interesting thing about ruckmen is that clubs can really only have a maximum of 3 good ones on their list because unless they can get a regular game they're going to seek to go elsewhere where they can.
Sean Darcy (Freo)...is 23 and has only really got going this season.
Luke Jackson was a #2 pick and is clearly an outlier.
Expect Heath to have good, long stints in the VFL in 2022/23.

He’s not Gawn
No one is saying he is Gawn. Don't know where you got that from.

He's a 22 year old kid who's played a handful of senior games.

He tears it up in the VFL.

All of that tells you not very much but who knows what he can or can't do.

Clearly the club thinks he has potential. Rucks take a while to develop.

Let's all hope they got another one right.

His nickname is X. How good would it be if he's got a bit of the X factor?

We need it and we deserve it.
Well said

Right here and now I am so grateful that in the 2021 mid year draft that we focussed on the future, and not the immediate needs in gaining both Heath and Sharman.
Ironically because our 2021 season was not going well we focused on securing the best young talent available, and also went from our initial declared aim of only getting one player to two. Without that second pick we would not have Sharman.
Another failed draft pick if Sharman was not drafted for our immediate needs.

How do you pronounce Xerri ?

Is it Cherry or Zerry ?
There's a league player in Sydney with the same surname - pronounced Sherry.
Heard Jon Ralph pronounce it Zerry. Guess we'll have to recruit him to find out.

If that buffoon Jon Ralph said it then it's most likely incorrect.

Then you can't have a call where Zurhaar passes to Xerri in a tight game because Brian Taylor would explode due to x-cessive alliteration trying to fit in the word zinger.

Tristan has to leave if only for Brian's sake..

I watched the replays of a few finals and BT is such a shocker...Obviously his job is not about accuracy or letting you know who has possession

He misses so much and he only really names the star players or the ones that he recognises who have been around for a while.

"Zurhaar gets the tap from someone that guy gets it back and passes to Ziebell. Zeiball hanballs it on to ...the bloke related to Joffa...

Aahhh jeezus...can someone help me out here...what's his name again... that kid related to Joffa...??
" It's Atu BT you old fool!!

Seriously.
In a trade for Sam Petrevski-Seton, who will go to the Eagles.

Carltons list is as good as ours (at least) as it stands without factoring in those inclusions.
But they are having to trade top ten draft pick Sam Petrevski-Seton out, who will go to the Eagles. I don't know if that is that much of an upgrade to be honest.

North is digging in re Xerri,

North Melbourne GM of Football Brady Rawlings says the club wants to keep Tristan Xerri after the ruckman requested a trade to St Kilda.

The 22-year-old has signalled his intention to join the Saints with a year to run on his contract after playing just 12 games since he was drafted to the Kangaroos in 2017.
Xerri is stuck behind Todd Goldstein in North Melbourne’s ruck pecking order but has impressed in the VFL, finishing second in the club’s best and fairest in 2021.

It will take something “very attractive” for North Melbourne to consider trading the 202cm ruckman, according to Rawlings.

“We signed Tristan for a couple of years, so he’s got one more year to go,” he told SEN Mornings.

“Given he’s in contract, he’s very much a required player for us.

If North ask too much I say we keep picks, keep $$$ resign Hunter as a back up for one year on minimum wage.

2022 Depending on how things play out could end up still with Ladhams and Xerri to pick from both uncontracted. Must not overpay for the unproven

Xerri will be even cheaper at the end of 2022. I'm not sure he'll be doing North too many favours after spending the year watching Goldstein & Coleman-Jones enjoy AFL.

Hopefully he stays switched on learning as much from Goldy as possible before bringing that to St Kilda. Fingers crossed Ryder will still be at the Club in 2022, at least as a Ruck Coach for Heath, Xerri & Marshall.

f*** Nth Melbourne. They don't deserve more than a 4th round pick for him.

North are an interesting club. A nice little deal with Richmond & you'd have to believe some under the table deal with Collingwood has been done if they fail to call Daicos with their first pick.

Kind of hoping St Kilda stick to their guns & drafting / trading plans for this year & next. Xerri & god knows who else will be available next year.

Yep. We need to plan like Ryder won't be available most weeks. Really only home games where two Ruckman required and hopefully be fit for/if we make finals. He could come in like Keating did for the Lions back in the day and be Mr September for us.

Sounds like Rawlings is taking lessons from Dildoro.....Xerri looks promising but I'd let it go if they're asking for too much.
He's already said he doesn't want to stay at North so will he be much use to them if they manage to retain him??

SAINTS SAY NO TO XERRI PRICE
ST KILDA has baulked at North Melbourne's initial asking price for contracted ruckman Tristan Xerri, after the Kangaroos requested a future second-round selection in return for the youngster.
