I agree, it's much easier to teach how to play tight, defend and take safe options. Shenton's dash and adventurousness on the field is not something that can be taught, and it is not easily found.matrix wrote:least he has a crack and tries to take it on off the back flank

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
I think with someone like Shenton, people don't look to the bigger picture. They will tend look at the likes of Webster and Gilbo etc and say "we have enough HBF's already, we don't need another". What they overlook is that I think HBF is Shenton's position, long term, whereas Webster will end up as a mid, and GIlbo must have question marks over his future due to ongoing injury concerns.
The likes of Wright and Shenton will give us some real dash out of the backline if they continue to develop. And Shenton has a real work ethic, which is an aspect that is often under-rated in my opinion.

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
I think Shenton probably is smart signing in regard to they know what they are getting, cost would not be high and over the next 2 years we are not contending. If he develops and becomes a Harry O ( on field) great- if not then gone in 2 years and has provided depth in that time. Not a high risk signing

Right. And that aside, he's a bit old (for us at this stage) and not really that tall. Reminds me more of Jimmy Gwilt than anyone else, and we just delisted him.SemperFidelis wrote:Not sure that's the first question, bratty.saintbrat wrote:hardingham any good?

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Just their predictions/assumptions. One glaring error is Markworth. He recently received a contract extension for next year. Simpkin contracted as well but the club may cut their losses.saintbrat wrote:names thrown up by H-S

I think the club is still undecided on Schneider. Possibly deciding on upgrading Minch and Eli and drafting Saad will have a bearing on that decsion.
Its now public knowledge Milera has requested a trade and the club will try and accomadate. Montagna and Siposs seem like obvious trade bait if a decent offer is made.

I don't mind him as a player. Might need a top up of peptides now though- seems to have dropped away a bit. I would just put him back on them and take the 3 day ban in the off season while he is on holidays in Bali.

Bit confused by this!
I would've thought Ahmed could be signed as a Delisted Free Agent?

still dont think it will happen
but you never know
he'd wanna be pretty fit seeing as he cant train with us till feb 2015, so he'll miss out on the clubs pre season and will somehow have to do his own

This is why!
UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
Primary List
Players delisted by a club are unrestricted free agents but a player who retires or delists himself is not eligible to be a free agent.
Players who are not in the top 25 per cent of salaries at their club (that is, in the club’s top nine-10 paid players) are eligible for unrestricted free agency if they have served at least eight years with the club.

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Sorry if there's already a post on this, but I've trawled back as far as I can motivate myself to.
Can someone who knows these things tell me how to calculate how many draft picks we'll be eligible for.
How big must our senior list be?
Are there 'veterans outside the list' type things?
how do you calculate the rookie elevations? -- do all who were rookies this year need to be elevated? Or are some already in our 40?
Any other factors.
Then I can fret about how many more of my favourite players will be axed -- with some accuracy.

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
It's not too complicated.avid wrote:Can someone who knows these things tell me how to calculate how many draft picks we'll be eligible for.
So far we've freed up 7 senior list spots. So that would mean 7 picks in the National Draft. (Or less and the equivalent number in the Pre-Season Draft.)
Most years there's a team or two has that many live picks. We had 7 in 2011 (though our last pick was Jason Blake and our second last Maister so they weren't all kids). It's pretty rare that someone has more than that.
But assuming we promote some rookies then they'll take away from that number. Similar if we trade someone in or pick up a free agent. Conversely, if we trade someone out or delist/retire any other players then the number increases.
Most likely we'll have 5 or 6 draft picks, as well as bringing in a player or two through trades and maybe as many as 4 new rookies to replace any we promote or dump.

I heard Richo being interviewed. He said five draft picks and three rookies promoted. Apologies if this has already been posted.

He also said we will be active looking for KPP's during trade week. 5 dp's and 3 rookie upgrades means 8 places needed (7 so far) without trades or the PSD. The Cull will be deep I think.borderbarry wrote:I heard Richo being interviewed. He said five draft picks and three rookies promoted. Apologies if this has already been posted.
As an aside, Cameron and Boyd have still not extended their contracts with GWS.

ST KILDA has joined the race for Greater Western Sydney swingman Kristian Jaksch in a bid to secure another blue-chip key position player.
The 196cm marking target met the Saints last week but will have as many as six clubs to choose from as he searches for a new home in Victoria.
The agile big man has already met with Carlton leaders and is expected to sit down with Western Bulldogs chiefs next week.
The Saints are on the hunt to bolster their key forward options after relying heavily on 31-year-old champion forward Nick Riewoldt, who claimed his sixth best and fairest award this season.
Landing Jaksch, 19, in next month’s trade period would ease the pressure on St Kilda to select a key forward with the No.1 pick in November’s national draft.

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Latest phantom draft has us getting Petracca at pick 1 & Mckenzie at our 2nd pick. (Saad going to Essendon late)
I'd be ok with that. But how do we get a 2nd pick between those 2 picks? Anyone heard anything?
