While I would much prefer we pick Petracca (the better player) over McCartin (the rarer commodity), the thing that really irks me is the fact that the club leaks like a sieve - again. Every single ******* decision this club makes hits the headlines five days before it's released officially.

It shows a complete lack of discipline if nothing else ...

if you listened to Brett from Inside football on SEN he stated that the club has not leaked anything.

Dude - every professional draft picker in the land just changed their phantom draft #1 pick to from Petracca to McCartin in the space of two days ... either there's a leak or crystal balls are now on sale on eBay ...

I've just been assuming that I'd we do take Paddy, it's been a "professional" leak. The world (well, at least most of the journos and the footy forum world) assumed we'd take Petracca.

Rather than let supporters stew tomorrow night on a choice we didn't expect, we're being softened up.

If that's right, it's pretty smart. There are a number on here already who've moved from Team Pet to Team Paddy over 24 hours.

I'm looking at getting 3 out 4 right tomorrow.

2 as a bare minimum. (Then hope Membrey and/or a Rookie come good for us).

Pick 1 alone wont be a messiah even if hes good we need much more than one good player.

Look at Carlton - 3 x pick 1s and 13 or 14 top 20 picks on their list and they are still rubbish.

I dont want to be melo-dramatic but the clubs future or even survival could depend on how tomorrows pick turn out.

We can't afford many more shockers at the draft table. We had 6 or 7 horrible drafting years. We are dead last from 18 clubs and in horrendous debt. We cant make that many more errors.

Its a real shame cos we did have 6 or 7 good years on the field - but we didnt cash in.

Herald Sun reporting with some certainty we are taking McCartin.

ST KILDA will crown Paddy McCartin the No.1 draft pick, believing the full-forward is the man to lead its list rebuild.

The Herald Sun understands the Saints have settled on the 194cm goalkicker, who has been likened to Hawthorn spearhead Jarryd Roughead.

Uhmmmm..., HTB, that link was just Emma Q and one sentence saying that maybe if he got fitter he could maybe get up the ground. I must have missed the CHF bit(?) Everything I've read (and plenty of others on here have also quoted the same) says that he's one position only, and get his marks and goals on the lead.

And seems he's shrinking... only 193cm now... isn't that Tom Simpkin's height?

Lots of blokes look good in the junior levels. Picking who is good at that level is not only easy, it's obvious. IMHO, the recruiters' art is determining who will be able to successfully transition to being able to showcase their tricks against the big boys in the AFL.

One obvious one would be a clear lack of the necessary work ethic. Another is if a bloke is simply too slight... that is what stops Tezza being a star. But for many many others it's a real challenge, and often a lottery, to try and work it out. Hence, the recruiters 'art'.

Now, looking at McCartin and his clear 'red warning light' shortcomings, I just can't see how he can successfully transition to senior AFL footy. And this just seems sooooooo obvious.

Whereas every write-up and recruiter (including in your link) goes for Petracca as the best in the draft.

Plus, he also kicks goals. Remembering, he starred as an underage player in the U18s, as a strong marking key forward, before upping his endurance, moving into the mid field... and domininating again.

I just don't get how there could be any hesitation re Petracca over McCartin.

Unfair Middo... the words 'what stops (from being)' were also in that sentence about Tezza.

McCartin outside 50m... do you mean in HTB's link above? If so, I saw that. But what wasn't shown was how he got that shot on goal. Show me some pack marks against big players. Hey, show me some pack marks...

I'm still waiting for the McCartin fans to address the concerns I've raised. I'm very worried that I may have to go onto Doc S's Bex prescription.

McCartin at only 193cm is very unlikely to be able to successfully make the transition from not taking pack marks against kids... to taking them against AFL sized men.

I have got no idea whether the club would/should take Petracca or McCartin. I trust the recruiters to get things right. But surely who we pick is also dependent on what is available in 2015.

Any predictions of what the top end talent next year is like - better talls or mids

Have no first hand knowledge but what I'm reading strongly suggests high on quality mids and low on quality talls.

Makes a Paddy selection quite sound IMO.

Height: 196cm Weight: 89kg

Son of the late Laurance Schache a past Brisbane Bears player, Joshua is key forward with good hand and a booming kick that is also fairly agile at 196cm. An AIS/AFL Academy member, Schache has already impressed in the TAC Cup making his debut in 2013 for the Murray Bushrangers been named in the best and kicking 4 goals. Schache already with respect of his older teammates should play a key role for the Murray side this year.

also seems like the Swans are going to get another decent Academy player at below market price.
