Re: Billy Longer
So all of Geelongs success came down to f/s picks?
Interesting
Nothing to do with
Management, Coaching, Recruiting and Development, Leadership, Harley, J. corey, Enright, ling, chapman, Johnson, Kelly, Bartel, hunt, King, Mooney, Selwood, Mackie, Tayloy, Varcoe, Rooke, Lonergan, Ottens??
Scarlett and Ablett were superstars... Both cost 3rd round picks... Lucky, maybe.... But that's the system for everyone.... Essendon got Jobe Watson and Dustin Fletcher the same way... Heath Shaw...etc
We drafted Sam Fisher with a 4th round pick who is a superstar....
They won 2011 without either
2007 without Hawkins
2007/11 without Blake
2009/11 without Nath Ablett
They had the superstar f/s selections in 2006? What turned them around in 2007?
Why have they not bottomed out
With the departure of
Thompson, Harley, Scarlett, Ling, Ablett, N. Ablett, Mooney, Rooke, Ottnens.
Simplistic to think that their performance was a result of a few plays.... It's a system created that turned them around
We were nearly there under GT.... Closer under Ross....
But are back to 2001 again..... Point of difference GWS and GC

They could easily have no flags if the current F/S laws had been implemented 10 years earlier.

Re: Billy Longer
Back on topic
Reckon the Longer trade may look like
Pick 19 ( Hawks compo pick) & pick 25 for Longer and pick 29.
Pick 41 for Bruce
Pick 77 for Delaney
leaves us with
Pick 3, 18, 29 & 59
total list changes
out
Milne, Blake, Kosi, Lever, Ledger, Dal Santo, McEvoy, Staley
in
Bruce, Delaney, Longer, Savage, Curren, DP 3, DP 18, DP 29.
Question is do we delist another player for pick 59?
Is it worth the cash and risk to lose Dunnell or TDL as examples for a punt on pick 59?
Do we think it's too much for Longer?
I would do the deal, not worth the risk in PSD for mine...

HS today mention us meeting the Lions yesterday for the 1st time over Longer with the Lions wanting a 1st round pickRoss who? wrote:Heard on one of the news services that we are giving the buddy pick for him
They have us with 3, 8, 24, 25, 41 and have offered 41 for Bruce
"the Giants have met veteran Sam Fisher and have raised the idea of him being part of a deal for Bruce"
Looks like there is plenty of material there for the Pelican to weave his magic and today we could see some of this sorted
I'm having good vibes!

Lions will lose him for nothing if they're not careful
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Can you trade PSD picks?MC Gusto wrote:Unless we did a trade with gws that included a swap if psd picks??
If so, why don't we do
pick 25 and PSD pick 3 for Bruce and PSD pick 1
Effectively get Longer and Bruce for pick 25

Not 100% certain but don't think you can change/trade PSD picks.

I wouldn't be giving up any of our top 20 draft picks for him
it has been around this time that "Kosi" will headbutt a fence, rip a hamstring or belt someone.

Re: Billy Longer
SEN saying it would be a joke if we get him for 25. a good joke for saints but a very bad joke for brisbane and an indictment on the state of their club. eg a top 10 pick, touted to go top 5 slips to them at 8 and they cant hang on to him and many other young players at the moment.

Are we sure he would walk if a trade can't be done? This is the key thing. If he is willing to walk, we can play hardball.

I guess when 5 or so recent high draft picks want out there is only so much leverage you have...MC Gusto wrote:SEN saying it would be a joke if we get him for 25. a good joke for saints but a very bad joke for brisbane and an indictment on the state of their club. eg a top 10 pick, touted to go top 5 slips to them at 8 and they cant hang on to him and many other young players at the moment.
It's a fire sale and Brisbane just need to get what they can... They're not going to get first round picks for yeo, polec, karnezis, longer & docherty.
Re: Billy Longer
Unless we trade Stanley for pick 14.... We cannot offer a top twenty in the draft!
We have approved a strategic plan and will stick rigidly to it, or the plan is not worth the paper it's written on.
The commitment to have 3 picks inside 20 over the next two drafts is a non negotiable as far as the club is concerned I reckon.
By end of 2016 I think the club would expect 7 regulars in the seniors from the 13, 14, 15 drafts
Plus the 15 - 20 they would have identified as players 23-28 by that year who are currently on the list.... Some may not be even on the list but targets.... Wouldn't be surprised if Patton was one such player?!
Others such as Riewoldt, Joey, Jones, Fisher, Dempster, Ray, Hayes, Schnieder, Gwilt, Gilbert, Maister are really just there to hold the team together for development.... In the period until that time
Hickey, Steven, Ross, Geary, Newnes, Roberton, Murdoch, Wright, Saunders, Minchington, Pierce, Webster, Curran .... Would be in the plans IMO
Bruce and Longer of course if they move to stk
Wouldn't surprise me if Armitage, Stanley and Gilbert were not future trade bait
Delaney and Savage we don't really know about yet
Decisions on
Siposs, White, Markworth, Ferguson to be made in time
Simpkin, Shenton, Dunnell and Milera are in no mans land IMO
23/24 and not cemented??
Not sure the situation with them?
Would hope to turn over the rookie list to find a player (Boyd) than clog it for depth 30-36 players

Re: Billy Longer
The Ferg is in massive trouble I think, he's not even on the senior list so they will have to draft him to keep him. I can't see us doing that to be honest. I think that if Longer goes to the PSD we will get him as it's not often other clubs jump in and draft a player who has nominated a club of choice. Think Luke Ball and Melbourne.

That's cos the Demons have no testicles.
Paul Conners told melbourne to F off and they picked up their skirts and ran off.
This time round GWS and especially Melbourne would snap up Longer for sure.

The only thing I have read or heard is to increase our 1st round draft picks by 50% in the first three rounds of the National draft over the next four years. Three 1st round picks initially in 2013.
