There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I didn't generalise anyone. I stated repeatedly that I was not generalising.True Believer wrote:Sorry St Michele, but this sort of thinking gets under my skin. It summarises as "those poor girls, who can't think for themselves, and all that prssure from the media that makes them behave that way" and absolves them of all responsibility for their own actions, whilst in the same breath, the same people expect a 19 year old boy who plays football to be a bastion of morality, an example to youngsters, and not to succumb to any normal temptations!!! Really, it cuts both ways or neither way, but really smacks of double standards.St Michele wrote: Saintsfan you can have an opinion but you do not need to make it on here or any other public forum. How dare you generalise about young women. society and the media sexualise them at such a young age why would you be suprised and then when we see the results people blame the young women.
Every year at the Brownlow they concentrate on the women and what they are wearing not the sporting prowess of the young men who the event is supposed to be about. Football lifestyles are glamourised and then we question why young women would try and sleep with/have a relationship with a footballer.
Maybe if you did some real research in to this situation you would see this is a reflection on all media publications that have women shown just for their looks. These girls think their physical looks is all they are recognised for so they are encouraged to use them and this is why we have these sorts of situations.
Poor woman and having no choices however. I feel so sorry for them. St Michele you have it a wee bit incorrect re my postings.

I don't expect young men to be the bastions of morality they too are exposed to this type of media hype for goodness sake we see the media saying footballers are heroes every other week. They too are socialised to beleive the same things however I was speaking about the girl involved in this not making judgement on the young men.True Believer wrote:Sorry St Michele, but this sort of thinking gets under my skin. There is plenty of research out there to show the impact of the media on young women, we see it every day with the amount of plastic surgery being done. Girls are socialised to accept this as normal now, unless they have strong role models who give them another perspective issues like this continue to arise
I am not saying they don't have the ability to make decisions I am trying to point out that by labeling young women in the way it was being done you need to consider all the circumstances ( social capital of individuals, access to education, parenting the list goes on) The media and society need to take some responsibility too not just blame young woman for all situations like this.

I understand that social conditioning and socio-economic influences have a bearing, but what I am saying is that there is now too much of a tendency to blame others for ones behaviour, particularly for young women. Ultimately, displaying self-respect, and some moral standards, come down to personal choices. There is a huge trend away from personal accountability across our entire society, and it is particularly evident with Gen Y, and especially so amongst the female gender (in my experiences).St Michele wrote:I don't expect young men to be the bastions of morality they too are exposed to this type of media hype for goodness sake we see the media saying footballers are heroes every other week. being a bit harsh..if some hot bird came up to you and asked you for it im sure you wouldnt turn it down...samoht wrote:The AFL players concerned could say no too sometimes to their hormones and yes to their responsibilities and ethics - or at least to prophylactics.
Trouble always seems to involve 2 AFL players .. - you'd think 1 of the two would have some sense, sometimes - but birds of a feather (more than) flock together it seems.
