Maybe we're just no good.
Didn’t Bonner have all-time high turnovers in a game a few weeks back? Do you think there was even a discussion about dropping him?
And select who clown?
Our unavailable list is more than 10 who the hell can they pick?
Literally anyone.

That's without doubt the worst performance we've offered in over 15 years.

Re: Match thread Saints v Dogs
There were way worse games under Ratten, Richo and Watters in that time. Lyon’s second worst losing margin though (60 points vs 61)

Re: Match thread Saints v Dogs
Unfortunately, I was at the game tonight. It was apparent from the 8 minute mark of the first quarter that there was a real lack of energy out there. Very sluggish. Players were not getting to contests, unable to spread. For the first time under Lyon we looked disorganised.
I'd like to think it's down to fatigue given out previous three weeks. A five day break after an interstate game leading into this one may account for the lack of energy.
We need some troops back, in particular Wood and Henry
Everything worked perfectly for the dogs tonight. I think they had about 14 set shots in a row where they didn't miss. Ever shank kick from us or them landed on their chests.
It was just one of those games

They looked sluggish on the TV as well. The dogs played in front all night we played catch up but couldn’t catch them. Did you sit to the end?cwrcyn wrote: ↑Thu 18 Apr 2024 11:22pm Unfortunately, I was at the game tonight. My 2nd in person game this year
Gather round was my first.
Give us that skinny Norwood oval and the Dogs don’t split us open anywhere near as much - but we’d still lose comfortably

Ross said last week that the midfield is spluttering. Well this week the engine conked out.
We were outclassed in there. At one point it was Garcia, Windy, Jones vs Bont, Macrae, Treloar. Just another class above our troops. No quick fixes here I think except getting some blokes back and getting more experience into these kids and hoping they come on quick

Re: Match thread Saints v Dogs
Yeah……probably woulda won, but them dirty, cheatin’ mongrel whistle-blowers skewed it. Getting slaughtered outa the centre, a zoning orf and weak defence might suggest otherwise though. Plus poor attitude, less than ordinary skills and limp-wristed efforts might’ve had a bit to do with it. Failure to shepherd and help each other and attack the ball aggressively may have perhaps contributed to the loss.

Re: Match thread Saints v Dogs
With Sandy not playing this week it would be difficult to bring in the underdone players like Dow, Hayes or Howard. We were far too short down back and maybe Keeler and Arie should be considered. The sooner we can replace the ball butchers like Byrnes and Jones the better and it’s time they realise Sharman, Caminiti and Cordy are not the future but maybe needed in the short term. Although I would like to see three or four changes for next week I imagine it will be King for Butler and an easy win for Port.

Agree. Be proactive instead of reactive and stop trying to kick around corners when you’re 15 odd metres out.

Members is a shadow of his former self
Ross is on his last legs
Pou has been on a gradual downward slide since round 7 last year. To think he kept Garcia out of the team against the Bombers and for 3/4 against the Giants. Garcia tonight exposed the stupidity of this myth of keep Pou in the team at all costs because he has talent and was the youngest player in his draft year and will develop faster. Pick players on form regardless of age. For the record I like Pou , but let him get his swagger and confidence back by developing and dominating at Sandy.
Too many skinny bodies that can’t stick tackles
Butler as sub was a master class in not thinking through what point of difference your sub can inject into the game.
3 games in 13 days including interstate travel was always going to be a recipe for disaster with the number of experienced senior players missing we had.
And finally, this is why banking those early season wins is so important. Such a lost opportunity. It’s going to be a hard road from here, and I’m betting that the worst thing that can - and will happen - is we storm home and finish 9th or 10th.
Rant over. I’m going to bed.

Re: Match thread Saints v Dogs
We were but let’s not let those pathetic excuses for umpires off when it mattered…
Dogs constantly caught with ball …
Dogs throwing the ball????
Saints forwards had no back apparently it was ok to charge into it
Garcia head ripped….
Umps were truly shiithouse and the AFL have not improved them in 15 years
NOT the reason we lost but let’s not pretend they played no part

I reckon if a team comes out and plays as s*** as what the Saints did tonight, I reckon the umpires should crucify them as some sort of punishmentTeflon wrote: ↑Thu 18 Apr 2024 11:52pmWe were but let’s not let those pathetic excuses for umpires off when it mattered…

Jones, Steele and Ross all below their best.
