So far he has not lived up to the level of hype.
I'm glad we chose Paddy.

Well if we are being honest neither has he.
Key forwards will always take longer to arrive.
Not many are reaching their potential at 21 whereas midfielders (that is number 1 picks) should be.

Today is a big day in this space. Brisbane have shown that they can get on a roll as shown against us and the dogs. Hopefully they can get going whilst the Hawks have a self destructive half.

No joy there today. But as long as we win more than they do, it's all good

Rioli and Stratton both injured.
Isaac Smith reported for striking Nick Robertson.
And playing a Collingwood side smarting from a 3 point loss courtesy of a free kick against GWS in Sydney.
They then play Sydney in Sydney at the SCG and Port in Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval. Three pretty tough assignments.

And they won by 7 goals - unbelievable. A couple of years ago they lost in the same way to us and had to face Geelong at Geelong the week after - and it was Corey's 300th game, and they won that one easily too. Last year they get thrashed by Carlton at the MCG, next week they beat Hawthorn easily.

Most inconsistent team in the league.

The Straw that breaks the Camels' (Hawks) back?

Rioli, Frawley and Stratton all to miss many games.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2017/05/16/ ... jury-blow/

Hawthorn may have won its past two matches, but it has been dealt a significant setback on the injury front with three stars set for extended periods on the sidelines.

Cyril Rioli is set to miss the next 8-12 weeks after suffering a PCL injury against the Brisbane Lions last Saturday, while defender James Frawley is expected to be out for the next eight weeks with turf toe.

Triple-premiership defender Ben Stratton suffered bone bruising in his knee is likely to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks, and forward Jack Fitzpatrick – who was only recently upgraded from the rookie list – faces a fitness test after suffering a concussion.

Star recruit Jaeger O'Meara's return remains unclear as he battled ongoing knee problems, while Grant Birchall is still a month away from resuming after straining a medial ligament against Melbourne in round six.

The news comes a day after rookie Luke Surman walked away from football, after losing his desire for the game.

The simplest definition of turf toe is that it is a sprain of the main joint of the big toe. It happens when the toe is forcibly bent up into hyperextension, such as when pushing off into a sprint and having the toe get stuck flat on the ground.

Sprains of the big toe joint became especially prevalent in American football players after artificial turf became more common on playing fields - hence the term "turf toe." Artificial turf is a harder surface than grass and does not have much "give" when forces are placed on it.

Although often associated with football, turf toe occurs in a wide range of sports and activities.

Well while we are naturally all biased in our views, the guy that created and then sold Champion Data has the Hawks finishing 17th :D

See http://www.liveladders.com/AFL/

He has the Saints finishing 7th. (Though after H&A and so finish after finals played would count)

So that would be picks 2 and 12 before any adjustment for Academy Pick Rorts.

Slightly worried that Brisbane will get a priority pick if they finish bottom and win less than five games though. Because let's be honest, they should have finished bottom of the ladder last year too.

Good chance that they will.

However if so, it probably would be after the first round, and not before it these days.

If the ladder finishes anything like he predicts we will need to manage our final finishing position.
We don't want to be playing West Coast in Perth in the first week of the finals.
But then with Adelaide, GWS, Port Adelaide and Fremantle as possible finalists it will be difficult to avoid an interstate final in the first week unless we finish 5th or 6th.

The AFL will not like it if the grand final has two interstate clubs.
But imagine the belly aching from Jay Welfareforall if two South Australian clubs were to make the grand final and be forced to play the game at the MCG.
He would need to be told the game needs electricity and that his wind turbines are too intermittent and their power electronics too fragile to guarantee supply.

They cant win without rioli. Omeara birchall and frawley with gibson and bourgoyne over it?? They will finish bottom 4. In fact only brisbane look worse.
We will have pick 4 at worse

hard to believe the Dorks have fallen so badly this year. They lost some good players, sure,
but maybe the team is a bit flat and annoyed that O'Meara was chased so hard and may be on nice coin, and the players don't see his value
or that he even belongs at the club.
It's why I don't think Fyfe would be good for us, because his paypacket could upset the nice dynamic and feel or vibe around East St.
My 2 cents worth

We have sold our second rounder for Jack Steele
If we finish in 6th that gives pick 31 before AFL adjustments.
Pick 31 last year ended up being pick 38 during the actual draft.
I am more than happy with that.

So we have two 1st rounders, our 3rd round, our 4th rounder and Norths 4th rounder.
If we finish 6th those 3rd & 4th rounders would be initially picks 49 & 67 worth 287 & 69 points.
In 2016 6th place 3rd & 4th rounders were pick 51 & 66, 259 & 80 points when used.
If North finish 14th their fourth rounder is initially pick 59 worth 158 points. But in 2016 that would be pick 57 worth 182 points when used.

We have 3 latish picks worth around 520 points if we use them.
Bundle them together they are equivalent to pick 35 when used, but that pick would be around pick 31 initially.
But if we trade them away as a bundle they would be worth just shy of 700 points to a queue jumper claiming their academy pick at 28 or later.

At this stage we don't know but there could well be a club trying to use a first round pick ahead of an academy pick who would trade the their first rounder down in return for that bundle of 3 picks raising one of our first rounders.
The outcome may enable our 1st rounder pick 13 to be upgraded to pick 7.
I like this outcome.

Alternately if we make a raid on GWS that bundle could be of value in the trade.
e.g Hawthorn's first rounder, our first rounder and the bundle for GWS first rounder and Kelly.
If Hawthorn does finish 17th that would be initially 2517 + 1212 + 520 - 985 = 3264 points
Valuing Kelly at 3264 points = pick 1 & pick 51 OR pick 6 & pick 7.
I like this outcome.

I do not like us using those three late picks ourselves.
We need quality not quantity.
