Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
There was a lot of column space over the Buddy pick in particular, the Hawks even protested and put a submission to the AFL! It raised its head again when Melbourne got a gift for Frawley, a decision which didn't generate anywhere near enough outrage from clubs IMO. Yes, it is a sneaky pressie for the AFL's mates, I think its a stretch to link it to equalisation...remember the AFL's gift to Geelong's when Motlop left (pic 19 I think), helping them land Gaz?Saintmatt wrote: ↑Wed 25 Sep 2019 1:18pmI'm pretty sure there wasn't an uproar. It was more of a shake of the head/roll of the eyes because everyone knew/knows that it's a complete bullsh!t formula for losing a player that it unpublished, known only to the AFL and completely arbitrary in application

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
In the equation for compo picks, Newnes has age on his side.
Would be great for us if we got a second rounder for him. I hope someone wants him!
we may have done well offering him 2 years.. if he goes, he will want 3 years.. so alongside his age we should get some ok compo (I wonder if Lethlean knows the formula, having worked at the AFL?)

Could be part of the Zac trade, someone mentioned he could be a good fit in a Hawks side but equally could fit nicely into the Swans team to replace some like-for-like players that retired this year.

I know people seem to think he is going, but has anyone actually heard of any club actually being interested?

I hear the backyard kindergarten leftovers are interested in recruiting him, but they are concerned by his age.Viscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 2:44pm I don't see him going anywhere because his value has dropped too much.
Not sure any club would be interested.

Started really well this year then was completely ineffectual.
They can't keep playing him. Trade him out or delist.

He started last year with bad shoulders and hasn't been able to tackle since, he also missed the entire preseason. I think he'll go some where and be a good player. He's no star but he's a solid Jack of all trades utility when fit. We don't really have spot for him with the kids we need to develop and the large amounts of similar level players we are looking to bring in.
I wouldn't be too concerned about whipping boys, Jones is a whipping boy at Sydney. He should fit in alright.

Richo might suggest that Melbourne uses him?
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

We are an embarrassment when it comes to the this age old and time honoured skill.
Seriously, 'Jill'?? WTF?
Jack and Jill.
We have enough Jack’s that they have to be identified somehow.
Nah, I think it’s terrible too.
