M Voss. Too young the first time. Great learning at Port. Knowledgeable and uncompromising
" A few will never give up on you. When you go back out on the field, those are the people I want in your minds. Those are the people I want in your hearts."
Credit where credit is due, he won a flag, however it was the most gargantuan fluke in the history of the AFL/VFL. They have never finished Top 4, including in their Premiership year.
They've been rebuilding/transitioning since the Premiership, have lost many good players, including sacking a gun forward when they had no other forwards, excepting the million dollar man Boyd.
I'm assuming 'ideal world' here, so... as coach - The Toxic Gnome. Lenny as assistant with a view.
The only current assistants I'd keep would be Playfair and Slater.
(Maybe keep McGlynn too? Haven't seen much of him, so hard to know.)
Other assistants from...
Sumich is meant to be a great tactician, but not sure if Toxi' would want/need that(?)
McQualter gets good raps, and then there's the romance factor which I'm all for.
Sam Mitchell.
Harves' - gotta' bring him home!
Schneiderman speaks well the couple of times that I've heard him.
And Rooey as CEO. Make it happen!
Hey Lazar, who and why would you like?
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?
Dave, man. Open up ------------------------------------------ -----Dave???
Yeah, Dave. ---------------------------------------------------------Dave's not here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOiG1hAr ... detailpage

The most important thing for St Kilda is to change their strategy regarding recruiting. They need to understand that are still rebuilding and there is no point in recruiting the Hanabury's of this world. If they don't get their heads around this fact we are doomed. Regarding a new coach I personally would choose Robert Harvey. If that was to be the case I could see us reaching close to 60,000 members next year. He has had a lot of experience and he is ready to step up.

Interesting.
See I’m a bit of a rap for Harvey as well.
Has been doing his apprenticeship for a while and to me, he’s always come across as more strategic than ppl give him credit for.

Sam Mitchell. He got the Eagles midfield purring and they won a flag on the back of it.
He had a good group to start with. I mean - Shuey, Gaff and Redden alone .... serviced by NicNat/Vardy/Lycett is pretty much a dream combo. I'm happy to give credit to Mitchell for some of it but I'd like to see how he'd go trying to polish the collective tvrds of Dunstan and Ross - without Steven - before I laud his coaching prowess too loudly.
No NicNat or Gaff for the latter part of the season. Redden a workhorse but Shuey & Yeo stars. On paper their midfield didn’t stack up to the Pies, Dees or Tigers.
If Mitchell came to us he’d prob make Acres a dominant bull midfielder & Clark a smooth moving Pendlebury type.
I've always been opposed to Robert Harvey, as I have the view he's a bit shy and not a great communicator. But he's had a decent apprenticeship and he might be about ready.
Because he's such a legend at St Kilda it would break my heart if supporters and posters on this forum treated him with the same venom and blatant disrespect that Alan Richardson is subject to.
I'd be looking for a coach with the right blend of youth and experience, Justin Leppich and Michael Voss as well as Banger.

Has been through some pretty hard times with Buck's too, when it would have been an easy solution to change (sack) a second level coach. Harvey and/or Lenny for mine, just something needs to happen
Wouldn't be unhappy with that to be honest. At least he wouldn't just fold under pressure, and he'd be easy to listen to
As long as he is in favour of developing our top end talent and doesn't focus too much on topping up with rejects and senior players from other clubs. Voss was head coach of Brisbane when they wasted draft picks and topped up to try and make finals. Not sure how much influence he has at Port Adelaide but they've also gone down that path with too many top ups in recent years.
If Voss has a focus on developing and recruiting young talent, I'd be in favour. We must focus on building a core group who can grow together and only bring in senior players who are A graders and bona fide stars- at the top of their game.
Of the guys that have coached in their own right I like Ratten as my first preference, then Leppitsch, followed closely by Matthew Knights

My considered belief is that Richo is gone if we don't play finals. We won't play finals imo. My opinion only of course. So, who will coach the saints next year? Who should it be? Ps no need to slam Richo here.
I still think Richo is the man for now but Voss has been talked of. It all hinges on how the season pans out I guess. It's way too early to make a call on any of this if we are reasonable. Things are tracking ok at the moment being 4-4.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.
Total = 1.
I think we need heart and soul. People who have bled for the club. Therefore do whatever we can to get Harv's and Lenny back. Keep Rats and Lade as strong support. Only heart and soul will get us to where we want to be.
