Re: It Could Be Worse...
The Saints have done a similar thing .... back in the 90's all we had to do was beat Brisbane (probably the bears at that stage). From memory Brisbane had won a couple of games for the season. All the Saints needed to do was win and we would have made it to the finals .....
Saints lost and ended their season.....

You're referring to the loss against the bottom of the ladder Brisbane Lions in 1998. We had already consolidated our spot in the finals. It was a shock loss by 1 point which seemed to perpetuate a losing mentality into the finals, however.repta wrote:The Saints have done a similar thing .... back in the 90's all we had to do was beat Brisbane (probably the bears at that stage). The loss meant we finished 6th instead of 4th or 5th and missed out on a first final in Melbourne. We had to play Sydney in Sydney which we ended up just losing.Sainternist wrote:You're referring to the loss against the bottom of the ladder Brisbane Lions in 1998. Under that system we got a second chance against Melbourne the following week. We were in horrid form and got trounced.
A few weeks later Tim Watson was our new coach.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Yeah that was a period of some extreme downhill skiing, resulting in Tim Watson and two of the worst seasons I have endured as a Saints supporter. The only good thing to come out of that period was Lenny Hayes.SaintPav wrote:The loss meant we finished 6th instead of 4th or 5th and missed out on a first final in Melbourne.
