Re: Brandon White
Only his 2nd year and he has played 2 games of AFL footballer. White will be good but he needs time like any person in life that is in the beginnings of a career. He will develop like many before him.
Same for Gresh, Paddy, Goddard, etc.

White was alright tonight.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Well I guess we view things differently.Con Gorozidis wrote:Disagree.saintsRrising wrote:White impressed, but Savage was better.Con Gorozidis wrote:I like him a lot.
Get 50 games in to him.
Better than Savage.
Savage was excellent and since coming back in there is even a case to say that on averaging those games he has been our best player over those games.
Savage tries hard but is a dumb footballer.
Since coming back in Savage has been probably the best user of the ball in the team IMO. He has also been better defensively.
Yesterday this was very much so. In the wet when many were using it poorly (ie Webster with two 20 m grubbers straight to Port players inside with one costing a goal and one luckily not).
Right here and now he is easily in our best 22.
Last night he was playing Joey's role and did it well. Ran with 4 bounces and kicked it well to set up a goal.
BUT BACK ON WHITE
One reason this lad has a future is that like Savage he is a beautiful kick. The Saints lack for good users of the ball and a major way that we will improve our 22 is by improving our ball movement. Players like White can help achieve.
Add some genuine ELITE mids, and IMPROVE our ball movement on average around the ground and then we will start improving our win/loss record.
White v DMak?
DMak quicker and is more frenetic. But White is steadier and more considered in his play and users the ball much better.
DMak plays like a bull at a gate. White is a thinker.
Right here and now for me it is hands down White at present.

Yesterday I thought White was playing Gilbert's roledegruch wrote:He's in for Joey, so that should keep him in a job.To the top wrote:White replaces Geary
Then we just might start to progress
DMak and Savage were sharing Joey's role. Savage good. DMak had some good moments, but many bad ones too.
Against Port we went in small due to rain.
NEXT WEEK
Roo will be back. Marshall probably stiff to not come back.
Lonie and DMak out. Weller possibly should be . Gresh probably will be retained but arguably should be dropped.
Would have been perfect for Freeman to have debuted. Grrrrrr.
Reserves to play today and so need to wait and see.
Possibly we should promote NoK and try him out. Or debut Rice against WCE.
But regardless White will be retained.

Re: Brandon White
As a group I thought that it was the ball use of our small forwards that cost us the game. That plus Bruce's kicking on goal, but the rest of Bruce's game was very good.SaintPav wrote:Weller should be dropped
Were Lonie and Weller banished in that last quarter and Sincs pushed forward instead?

Where have we been hiding Brandon White, don't know how he hasn't played earlier (aside from his debut last year)? I like the cut of his jib, is going to be a gun.

He cant play back, cant play mid and sure as hell cant play fwd. 51 goals from 104 games as a full time fwd means he isnt a fwd.SaintPav wrote:Weller should be dropped

BUT was a naughty bow pre-season and came back in poor shape.
Started the VFL season poorly.
However his form built and for a number of games now at VFL level he was looking very good. Yesterday we saw that as well. Only one game yesterday, but you would think based on that and his recent VFL form that he will play out the year in the seniors.

Re: Brandon White
DMac and White will both get plenty of opportunity next year.
But at this stage I would say White is definitely going to make it and DMac possibly not.

Re: Brandon White
You know what's an interesting thought...
On form, Brandon White did not deserve to play last night. Most thought his selection was out of left field.
He def won't be dropped on that performance.
It feels like it adds to the disorganised argument

I must admit that I am confused. From what I can gather his recent VFL was good and did deserve selection.skeptic wrote:You know what's an interesting thought...

The type of role he plays in defense makes it hard to be named in the bests. Though he was named in the bests against the Cats. But his recent VFL was good. He did start the season poorly, but for mine he has been knocking on the door of selection recently.

Don't mind White has been made to earn his spot back in the side. Obviously his conditioning in the off season wasn't up to scratch, but making him take the long road back into the side and a month in the seniors will hopefully make him appreciate the opportunity he has in front of him.
His composure was first class yesterday. We had guy like Webster and Roberton throwing it on the boot kicking helicopters all day, and Joey has been doing that a lot over the last month, but a second gamer managed to find a bit of time in a congested back half, I think his future is bright.
I think it probably sends a message to Joey though. The time has come....

""Would have been perfect for Freeman to have debuted. ."" = As in cannot now happen
"" Grrrrrr."" = due to him being out injured for most, if not all of the rest of the season.
