Reminds me of The Rutles (a parody of The Beatles) where, at the end, the band members all sue each other and one of them sues himself, accidentally.SuperDuper wrote:SuperDuper wrote:dragit wrote:Hilarious…shrodes wrote:$100k fine and loss of 1000 draft points (equivalent pick ~15)

AFL fine themselves $100,000
Right up there with finding Melbourne not guilty of tanking, but then fining them… then giving them the money to hire Roos.
yes.. who has any doubt that they will still end up with a top 10 draft prospect nexr year despite being sanctioned
they delayed this yeard santion because there were 2 academy top 15 prospects so they did not want the sanctions to actually deprive them
Next years crop clearly not looking as strong
and as you say,,, any fine on gws is hilarious.... AFL is 100% fining themselves

Re: GWS sanctions
Didn't they already give away their first pick this year for Deledio?
So how do they give up the 1000 points or are the AFL allowing Richmond to pay the penalty in their stead.

GWS still have their 2017 first round pick.SinCitySainter wrote:Didn't they already give away their first pick this year for Deledio?

They spent Geelong's 2017 first round pick on Deledio which they got from Carlton. Carlton got it from Geelong for Zac Tuohy.
(Geelong are 2-3 years away from a Wooden Spoon imo.)

Re: GWS sanctions
On reflection, I'm really worried if GWS will ever recover from this…
1000 points @ around pick 15, when they've only had 28 first rounders and 19 top ten picks in the last 6 drafts.

Re: GWS sanctions
I wouldn't be at all surprised if GWS fall apart after winning a gifted flag. I reckon most of their current list will look for other clubs once they win one and they will will end up basically being a training ground for first round picks that eventually move on to other clubs.ROLS-LEE wrote:We will probably be giving them more first rounders for Jelly or shiel

Re: GWS sanctions
What a travesty. As Jacks Back has posted several times, it's just a business. Any semblance of even playing field is shot to pieces. If we win a flag in the next few years it will be an awesome achievement in the light of that.dragit wrote:On reflection, I'm really worried if GWS will ever recover from this…

Re: GWS sanctions
They may not even win one - everything has to fall right to win a flag - if they have a few injuries / suspensions at the wrong end of the season then it could all fall apart - we know that all too wellstkfc1 wrote:I wouldn't be at all surprised if GWS fall apart after winning a gifted flag. Re: GWS sanctions
Also note that 1000 points is between picks 17 and 18 and even worse, GWS get 20℅ discount on their draftees who all come from their academiy hese days .. so the penalty is really 800 points or between picks 23 and 24.dragit wrote:Hilarious…shrodes wrote:$100k fine and loss of 1000 draft points (equivalent pick ~15)

Re: GWS sanctions
They have lost 1000 points. If they use 800 on an academy player, they should still be down 200. No big deal, but it is the first penalty GWS has received and tthey wont like it, but I do.

Re: GWS sanctions
Yes but the issue is whether or not they actually lose access to a highly rated youngster. They won't. That extra 200 points you refer to just affects their later picks not the ones at the pointy endborderbarry wrote:They have lost 1000 points. The 20℅ discount needs to be scrapped asap. The advantage of moving up the order is already huge. The added 20℅ discount is going way too far.
Infact it should incur a 20℅ penalty if the AFL were at all serious about an even playing field (lol). This would partly negate the huge benefit of being able to move up the order
