Re: Jake Carlisle
It would be the end of Delaney's career if we end up with Carlisle.
With Godddard, Roberton, Carlisle, Webster, Gilbert, Newnes, Geary, Savage down back going forward there wouldn't be much room for Del.

Re: Jake Carlisle
If this is happening and I was Finnis I would call Jake and have him do a deal with WADA and just cop 6 months starting now. F*ck the Bombers.

Re: Jake Carlisle
Just had a quick browse over his games. Kicked 8 in one game last year and took 19 marks v the Pies in one game. 19! Anyone who can do that is probably worth a pick 6.

Delaney would be a perfect depth player...
could come in to do a job
Re: Jake Carlisle
24 in a few months.
Realistically 7-8 years of footy in him.
On his exposed form to this point he is worth pick 6 every day of the week.
Not taking into account the WADA stuff, and in any case my personally opinion is the players will get 6 months at an absolute maximum, 3 more likely. So in that case it's a non issue when weighing up the trade.
A natural defender, who along with Goddard, would form the best 1-2 key back combination in the AFL.. Added to Bruce & McCartin up forward and our key bookends are sorted for the next decade and all potential A grade to A+ grade level.
If the player we draft at pick 6 was as good as Carlisle is after 5 seasons (especially in his best position), we'd be calling it a massive win. So on that basis, I'd take it and run.

There is no way in the wide world our admin is giving up #5 (probably will be that pick) for a bloke who is OOC, hates the coach, and the club, and has a lengthy two year ban hanging over his head.
Carlton are said to be keen but Silvagni is no idiot like the last lot that was there (#7 for Jaschke and #19# for Busthorst FFS ) and wont give up #3 for him.
If need be he is OOC. They will have to delist where I think we can pick him up as a DFA or once again (P66's favourite ) he can walk into the PSD nominate us and we front end load it like buggery. Carlton are in a world of pain re their TPP and SoS will be shying away from big contracts.
But rest assured #5 is going on a class mid, whomever is left (Parish, Mathesion, Balics, Tucker etc).
if we get Carlisle it will be on our terms

Re: Jake Carlisle
Obviously I can't reveal the source - but it is someone in a full-time role at St Kilda. However, you don't need to be a genius to join the dots - he wants to play Full Back and wants out of Essendon, we have a need in defence and the dollars available. His age also fits our recruiting strategy - along with the fact this years draft is weak beyond pick 3.

Leigh Fisher once took 18 marks in a game but I doubt any club would have given up pick 6 for him.Con Gorozidis wrote:Just had a quick browse over his games. Kicked 8 in one game last year and took 19 marks v the Pies in one game. 19! Anyone who can do that is probably worth a pick 6.

Re: Jake Carlisle
Im sorry Mad Saint I like many others dont share your sense of excitement! Firstly I wouldnt be giving up a first round choice for a full back particularly someone of dubious character and from a shyte (drug effected) club! The only occasion the Saints should consider trading our first round should be for a quality midfielder eg Treloar, Kelly etc.
Draft another youngster or state league player as a key defender, back our recuiters in! Apart from Hughton when was last time the Saints drafted and developed tbeir own key defender? Goddard looks great stay the path Saints!

Re: Jake Carlisle
Not sure that you understand the deal - yes pick 6 goes to Ess, but pick 20 odd and Carlisle come the other way. We obtain Carlisle and move forward with 2 picks in the top 25.
Re: Jake Carlisle
I would take Carlisle for pick 6, he's good and will get better.
But man, at some point we have to start taking mids with early picks.

Re: Jake Carlisle
Would love Carlisle but we are three A grade mids away from being a finals side... I think that must be the priority.

No. So we would have live picks 22 and 24 to use in the draft.Old Mate wrote:Do we also give our 2nd rounder?MadSaintFan wrote:Not sure that you understand the deal - yes pick 6 goes to Ess, but pick 20 odd and Carlisle come the other way. So our first pick (5 or 6) for a OOC player.MadSaintFan wrote:Not sure that you understand the deal - yes pick 6 goes to Ess, but pick 20 odd and Carlisle come the other way. We obtain Carlisle and move forward with 2 picks in the top 25.
For a player who hasn't played well for three years
For a player looking down the barrel of a lengthy ban for drug use?
For a player with a dubious character.
If this happens our recruiter have officially lost it.
Haven't they watched our mids against a top eight team this season.
Absolute idiocy

Re: Jake Carlisle
I'm a bit ho-hum about Carlisle.
He seems like a problem child at Essendon, and is tarnished with likely drug suspension. Less than ideal.
Besides, I reckon we needd to recurit quality mids with our early draft picks.
Whilst I agree that we need a full back, I'd be happy to wait around for a 'cheaper' one. Lee for example may develop...

Re: Jake Carlisle
Not sure where the questions about his character are coming from, I have heard next to nothing about him off the field.

Re: Jake Carlisle
Looks good to me.
Fits our need of a fullback.
Fits our age requirement.
May miss a handful of games through WADA ban, but a draft pick may take a couple of years to develop.
Go for it!

Re: Jake Carlisle
Well I have consistently said since day one of the Bummers scandal that I didn't hold the guys aged under 21 responsible as they would have no idea what was the norm and what wasnt. In April-May 2012 when this was all going down Jake was only 20yo. So he gets a pass from me on that score. Cant hold it against a young kid like that.
On the other hand, older guys like Jobe deserve everything coming their way.

Re: Jake Carlisle
If we can get a quality KPD as good as Carlilse for our first round pick we would be crazy to go any other way.
He has All Australian written all over him.
If he gets a WADA ban at all, which I doubt any of them will, it will be for less than a couple of months and probably coincide with the off-season.
At pick six you may get an absolute star or you may get a draft bust, Carlilse however is a very good B to A grader and still improving.
Go for it, I say.

For one he was good last year so that 3 yrs thing is crap.
The character call is out of your butt.
The ban... the club will do diligence.
The guy is a proven gun, let's not get hysterical... would also compliment our side amazingly.
Yes I know we need mids etc etc but the club knows that if we sew up the KPs we have the makings of a premiership team.
