Sensible decision.
May be a bit unfair on Geelong, but thems the breaks, sometimes life matters are more important than football.
Gives the Adelaide players a chance to regroup, grieve, attend the funeral, and get their life and profession back on track.
F*ck Geelong. They are 10th and the Crows are 7th and it is an AO game. Geelong would not have won.
Clearly its Adelaide who are the losers in this situation all around.
Why so aggressive Con? Geelong might not have won but they didn't get a chance at the four points. Didn't you read where I said thems the breaks?
Geez, settle down. Clearly it is not Geelong forfeiting the game. They are stiff, Adelaide are the lucky ones to get anything.
But as I said, it is a good decision that nobody will quibble about I wouldn't think.

Why would you say that on this thread? Why the anger?
And it gives Adelaide supporters a day of celebration and to honor the man.
You could still sound all of the sirens to make it an official game that would show that there are more important things in life than a game of football
I agree that the AFL made the right decision. I also agree with Con: considering Geelong's form so far that is definitely 2 points gained, rather than lost for them. I wonder if anyone would actually have the guts to moan about that decision, considering the bucket of emotional s*** that would tipped on their heads. I like Sunsaint's idea too. Might be a few difficult games this weekend, a few players who aren't putting in 100% or switching off at times. I hope the footy community understands.

Is it too heartless to tie this into our picks vs wins debate?
If Essendon turn up and play a nominal game on the grounds of being in mourning, will winning against them have less significance? Bearing in mind that all celebration of winning a game will be postponed, will the victory be sweet? No winners this weekend.

That all seems to be a bit much. Are we allowed to cheer or boo? Maybe the rest of the round should be cancelled (including last night's game) and everyone gets 2 points because if you are not allowing anything to go ahead as per usual then why are the games going on?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
That is ridiculous, to not play the winning team's song. Seriously?
I know that if we win this weekend I will be so happy and that doesn't make me a bad person or disrespectful.
I'm shattered by what has happened but the show goes on

Nothing stopping fans in the ground singing the song themselves, I probably would if the Saints won, no matter how hollow the victory. Let's just hope everyone gets through it, and for 2 hours we can lift the grief off our shoulders.
I think the celebration cancellation is a bit much, but perhaps the entire AFL are merely going through the motions this weekend. Good luck to any player or coach who can do their job without distraction now and in the immediate future.
A moment for all parents and children to reflect on our expectations within our families. That comes far far above a professional sporting competition, and the fact that any games are going ahead is probably more to do with convenience than anything else.

Adelaide and Port probably will have a very heavy burden but the players with out any real contact will probably be over the shock once the game starts. Sometimes doing what they do is better than therapy. I think the AFL have handled it pretty respectfully and going a bit over the top is probably the right thing to do. The AFL could do with handling something well at the moment. I feel for Gillon, he has weathered the greatest disasters ever to befall the competition in a very brief period. If you had told him he would handle the Essendon saga, tanking, the death of 2 Adelaide staff including the coach and several illegal and performance enhancing drug problems in his short time at the helm he would have run as fast as he could. At the end of the day you realise its only a game though.

I hope you are taking the piss. Seriously who cares. Some people would complain even if they totally agreed.
I notice the ads haven't stopped on the fence for tonight's game. Stop any pre or post match stuff but as long as the ads are running that's all that matters.
