Re: Saints Inner sanctum- Robbo
Stanley has been ok this year but he plays one very good game and our culture is an issue.
Robbo could have at least waited until the end of the year.

Could someone plz explain exactly what he said or provide a link to the program where he made the comment?
Been looking for it on SEN and can't find it.
Would appreciate any help.

Re: Saints Inner sanctum- Robbo
If Robbo criticised us over Stanley, then he really is an uninformed boofhead.
What was apparent by last year was that Stanley could not play back, he could not impact the game as a key forward but could ruck. Stanley's mobility, speed and jumping ability was always going to make him a decent ruckman.
I think the Club knew this and probably had no intention of trading him. We were, unlike Geelong, well stocked with some potentially really good ruckman. Hickey, Longer, Holmes and indeed Pierce. Along come Geelong offering pick 21 (overs) and we said thank you very much, we can afford to let go one of our ruckmen and we'll take McKenzie.
Stanley could be doing exactly what he is doing at Geelong, if we played him as a first ruck (at the expense of Hickey & Longer). The question for fart mouth Robbo is? How's Stanley going to go as a first ruckman against Mumford? Or how is he going to go in a Prelim or Grand Final?
Robbo can flog the culture horse all he likes, but let's see how the St Kilda & Geelong FCs match up in a few years. The fact that Geelong were unsuccessfully trying to get Ablett back, indicates that their strong culture just might be slipping.

On Friday night Stanely does what Stanley does.
Heading for best on ground but had to go off and couldn't finish the rest of the game.

Are you talking about last year - 2014?saynta wrote:In Ryce's last year at the Saints (2013), the players were all asked to rate each saint with a number from 1 to 45. I will leave it to you to guess who was rated stone motherless last.
The players are complete dickheads if they rated him below guys that couldn't even crack an AFL game, where did you get this gem from?

So the players rated Stanley below Dennis-Lane, Dunnel, Milera & Maister?saynta wrote:Sorry, yes 2014.dragit wrote:Are you talking about last year - 2014?saynta wrote:In Ryce's last year at the Saints (2013), the players were all asked to rate each saint with a number from 1 to 45. What was the actual question?
Was the rating part of a set of questions/ratings?
It's a pretty big statement to toss up and not qualify, so no doubt people will assume you are just speaking rubbish unless you can explain it a little better.

Just did a little investigation into this and I call absolute bulls***. I think you find out the exact question first.

If Rhys was no.45 on our list we would be celebrating our second flag !
Geelong saw fit to trade for him and have been playing him in their firsts.

Re: Saints Inner sanctum- Robbo
My inside info says they were rating them on how short they were. Stanley was much less short than all of the guys you mentioned there, so he ended up right at the bottom of the list.dragit wrote:So the players rated Stanley below Dennis-Lane, Dunnel, Milera & Maister?saynta wrote:Sorry, yes 2014.dragit wrote:Are you talking about last year - 2014?saynta wrote:In Ryce's last year at the Saints (2013), the players were all asked to rate each saint with a number from 1 to 45. Leading teams and other similar outfits have been getting the players to rate themselves and each other for decades. I don't think the ratings are related to pure football ablity.
What is it you guys don't like?
Is it the fact that players are asked to rate themselves and their teammates or the fact that someone has to come last?
I remember Spider being shocked to find out where his team mates rated him.

Re: Saints Inner sanctum- Robbo
Apparently he was the strongest bloke at the club in his last couple of years. Could bench pretty high numbers.
We let Stanley go because we had an opportunity for the rebuild. Pick 21 at the time was OVERS. He was not delivering.
Trading him for that pick.... When we are definitely rebuilding. How on earth is that a sign of a poor culture? Absolute twaddle.
Best of luck to him. I always thought he could be a really good player yet found him to be probably the most frustrating guy on the list. He had played a couple of good games and won a grand final sprint.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....
