Well so have I. They will always think differently. What I do remember was the day dying unfortunately.
Are you sure that it was footy that brought it back? Could it have nothing to do with a growing sentitment of nationalism as A response to a changing country?
When I was a kid anzac day was about remembering those that died in wars, and how futile wars are.
Sometimes I fear that nowadays it's more jingoism than a day of remembrance.

When I was a kid in the 80's it wasn't as big a deal as it is now
Apparently people in NSW, ACT and Queensland don't even know it's ANZAC day.
No wonder the drug cheats are now heroes. They pretty much have done more that any soldier to promote the rights of supermarkets and soft porn mags to pay deep respect for some s*** that happened a long time ago. I thought it was something to do with getting pissed and gambling before the AFL invented ANZAC day.

They do as well because they have a big Anzac match in the NRL. There is nothing wrong with a sport helping Anzac day grow. It can mutual. As long as people don't mention what they do on a footy field as similar to what happened a war. As I said previously local footy never had anything on Anzac day now a hell of a lot of clubs celebrate the day.

You mean ca$h in on the day, just as our club is doing

Agreed.
We talk about equity and fairness in the game. But two of the most powerful clubs get to be that much more powerful each year by piggy backing on the ANZAC day legend.
But yes..come September and nobody is going to care who won this meaningless game.
What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.
It's complete bulls***. Collingwood and Essendon don't own this day. About time the Grand Finalists play the MCG on ANZAC day.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
