Spot on Hemi. Everything went through his hands tonight probably because of nerves and a slippery pill. But you can see the footy intelligence and competiveness in him. As a debut in a big game I thought it was pretty damn good. He seems a really selfless player too looking to give it off. The way he spotted up Billings was great. That is game No. 1 on short notice on a wet night when his nerves would have been crazy. He will be much better after he digests that experience and realises he can survive a big AFL game. I have no doubt Paddy is going to be a absolute ripper for us. I'd like to see him get a lot more games this year.

Even if he was to be average in five or so games he takes those marks and he ends up with 3 goals. Got himself in good spots I'd suggest nerves more than ability.

I don't think it was fair to select him to be honest. I would've preferred that he was held back with Hugh until he was absolutely hammering down the door, which would probably be mid season.

From all reports, he didn't do much in the first VFL praccie match and I watched him last week and while he kicked 4.3, gave off a couple, it wasn't against much opposition and also wasn't a dominant performance. This isn't a knock on the kid at all, he just wasn't firing on all four before tonight, so you chuck him in on the biggest stage of the year, a Friday night footy, with his Captain/mentor out, with rain everywhere - I just think he was on a hiding to nothing.

The last thing I want is to Jack Watts the kid.

I need to ask also even if it's a bit off topic, what are they doing to Tom Lee? First proper preseason and suddenly the bloke is a defender? One would assume that Hugh would come in should Dempster/Chips/Del go down, so now Tom has to learn a new craft and he is second in line to replace someone?

He would've been a better option tonight as Roos replacement. For all of the naysayers, he hasn't yet be able to show what he can do yet. And I hope he gets an opportunity.

I'm never one to bag a player, but, It was a little funny going onto fantasy football and seeing that Wright had a better score than Paddy at half time.

But on a more serious note, knowing the kid, he would sure as hell be unhappy with his performance. But he's not the kind that will hide away, and mumble, he will without a doubt be working hhis backside off to earn the respect of his peers. That's what I'm looking forward to seeing.
