Re: Let's get behind Tom Lee today
Tom had a go but he looks a bit slow and his skills aren't great.
He's the type who would have done ok with good delivery in the 70s and 80s.
But the club should persist and keep playing him.

He made one very poor effort. It was unacceptable from a commitment to the contest standard.
Should have played his last game

Re: Let's get behind Tom Lee today
He needs to get stuck into the weights room & get his endurance way up. He basically needs to finish the season without requiring another set of operations & just kill himself with gym work & extra fitness sessions.
He just gets brushed aside WAY too easily for an AFL footballer & it eats away at his confidence on field. I've seen him do some very good things where it's apparent that he does have a football brain - but he's just not getting close to it at AFL level.
Definitely needs to stop being thrown into the ruck, that's not doing anyone any favours.

You really love to over state things Mart. I thought he was actually showing good signs, his marks were sticking and he was getting into the right spots. If I was a coach I would think there was a bit to work with. Writing off guys with under 30 games experience will either make you look foolish when they come good or just look like you fired off early anyway. Most players don't make it so if I wrote off that everyone but the select few that show brilliant signs from day one i would look like what I was saying had merit. I don't exactly know what you are trying to achieve but it looks like you want a few to fire back at you so you can knuckle down to a bout of horn clashing.

It's comedy… As Mart suggested, his posts work better if you read them in a Ron Burgundy voicegringo wrote:BigMart wrote:He made one very poor effort. It was unacceptable from a commitment to the contest standard.

Re: Let's get behind Tom Lee today
Lee is not a kid, number of AFL games aside. He may be able to get on the lead at VFL level but with the closer checking of the big league he cannot hold his marks and his ground game, whilst good is not why he is in the side. He cannot body players one on one, does not have the smarts to lead into space and his kicking has gone backwards. This may be fitness but that should be a worry. We gave him a go, he has not met the standard.

He may not be a kid, but he came to us with a kid's body… the club said from day one that he would be a long term project as his body was miles behind AFL level.6621104 wrote:Lee is not a kid, number of AFL games aside. I think people are kidding themselves if they think "we've given him a go" and will now be de-listed. He has plenty to work on, but is still our most promising key forward, so until we land a Tom Boyd guys like Lee & Stanley will be persisted with… hopefully one blossoms.
Pretty tough playing key forward in a side getting belted by 100 points most weeks, even Nick Riewoldt is battling for a kick the past few weeks.

You are going to find that even mature guys with little experience need time, he might need 2 years development instead of 4 though so is still ahead of what a true kid would be. If we flick every player with an assessment made after 10 games it will be a long decade.

Forget this games rubbish otherwise we shouldnt have got rid of Brad Howrd, Justin Sweeney and LJ Conners. Yep he will get another year because he cost us pick 12 but I would be a bit doubtfull he would if he cost pick 60. He gets one more year so he better show something. Its no one else's fault he is struggling so he is the only one who can prove the knockers wrong.

Not sure if you're serious. You know he didn't cost us pick 12.plugger66 wrote:gringo wrote:6621104 wrote:Lee is not a kid, number of AFL games aside. I bought a coffee yesterday. I handed over a ten dollar note and got a five dollar note and two dollar note in change.

Re: Let's get behind Tom Lee today
Tom needs to put on 5-7kg of muscle this summer or hes done for.
He has zero presence at all in the contest.
Even if you dont mark it or kick a goal we at least need someone down there who creates a contest. Right now the opposition can safely double team Rooey.
I would seriously look at John Butcher for next year. Who cares if he cant kick. We arent going to get a perfect key fwd who ticks all the boxes cheap . We just need someone who creates a contest and at least holds the ball up to prevent us getting smashed. Im talking a late pick - just like we used on Delaney.
Obviously we need another genuine gun key fwd (or two) but we are going to have to get them from the draft and they will take 3-4 years to come good after drafting.

Re: Let's get behind Tom Lee today
Instead of Lee we could have had Kristian Jaksch..taken at pick 12.
He's played 4 games. Turns 20 this year. Hardly setting the world on fire.
If he was at the saints everyone would be saying how we'd wasted the draft pick anyway having hardly played a game!
Can't win on here unless every recruit is a gun....FFS.
What's even weirder is a fair few on here talking about recruiting Jaksch because he's a surplus tall at GWS.
What's Jaksch done to suggest he's any good? Be a first round draft pick?

Re: Let's get behind Tom Lee today
I think that poor kicking can be remedied with concentrated training and teaching from an expert. The art of kicking for goal is woefully neglected at AFL clubs because those who land up on an AFL list are expected to have the skills to kick a goal. Regardless of whether that should be true, it clearly is not.Con Gorozidis wrote:Tom needs to put on 5-7kg of muscle this summer or hes done for.

There is nothing inherent in a player's ability to line up and kick a set shot. It is entirely technique, training, muscle memory and confidence. If Butcher was identified as a good fit sans his goal-kicking ability, I'd be confident we could fix that.

I hope the coffee tasted good for ten bucks, what a rip off.
I haven't seen a two dollar note in ages btw.
