having a dip at also means having a go, having a shot at, having a dig at - as a joke, yes it is funny and yes, I agree Tony Abbott does fit all categories - just re reading your post, it does come across to me as you are are having at go at me in particular because you think I happen to have it in for Abbott as an ongoing theme
It would be good for you to acknowledge that sometimes we come across online not as we intend to and that you, probably more than anyone, tend to have at dig / dip at others more often that you do share a joke with the them and posters can be naturally defensive and will respond on the basis of not giving you the benefit of doubt
that's all, no biggie, no need for a post war no need to suggest that because I take you on face value, that I need a laugh - I probably laugh more than most just to keep from crying
