Strapping in the head would certainly be classed as more preventative. Perhaps it's where they get the expression wrapping him in cotton wool. A no brainer really.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

ST KILDA midfielder David Armitage could be discharged from hospital on Monday but will miss at least another two weeks as he recovers from a nasty gash to his knee.
Armitage was admitted to hospital last week after the laceration below his right kneecap began to “grumble” following the Round 4 loss to Adelaide.
Pelchen said defender James Gwilt (jarred back) would be fit and cautioned that while Fisher was set to join the travelling squad, he wasn’t guaranteed a match.

.Sam Gilbert injury update
April 29, 2014 4:30 PM
Scans conducted on Saints defender Sam Gilbert this week have revealed that his foot injury is recovering slower than previously anticipated and he is likely to miss another nine to 10 weeks of the 2014 season.

Gilbert will continue to take a conservative approach to his return-to-play which involves a further period of rest before returning to training in six to eight weeks weeks.

St Kilda Head of Football, Chris Pelchen said: "Obviously, we are disappointed that Sam's foot injury hasn't repaired to the extent we had anticipated. We will reassess his recovery in coming weeks before being able to determine a more exact date for his return."

So with the collective bad news about Gilbo and Eli, looks like we have two potential spots (Wright's and Gilbert's) for fresh rookie upgrades? I assume we use them (and/or that midyear upgrade that someone else mentioned somewhere)?

Weller and ?

Is it Shenton on form?

Shenton must be next up after Weller. I don't think Minch or Holmes are anywhere near as close.

Clubs usually only promote a rookie if they are going to play them. Given Armitage's injury there's an argument for Weller to get a game but I'm not sure any of the other rookies would get a game. Shenton's going ok but with Fisher back I can't see tgat there's a spot for him.

from the above link
Hickey's loss will be keenly felt by the Saints, as the former Gold Coast Sun has carried their ruck division this season in the wake of Ben McEvoy's trade to Hawthorn.

Richardson said Hickey's foot injury had flared during training in the lead-up to Saturday's match, but stressed reports that he had suffered a stress fracture were incorrect.

"He has soreness in his foot, so from a precautionary perspective, he goes into a moonboot," Richardson said.

"He's out for an extended period of time, not dissimilar to Geary, eight to 10 weeks.

"It had been reported that he had a stress fracture. That's not the case, there's no fracture. The scans showed a bit of a hot spot, which is a bit of a warming, so you've just got to get them off their legs."

Not trying to suck up to the bloke but in his 'Dr Larkins Says' comments on the weekly AFL Update - Doc Larkins expressed incredulity that both Hickey and Gilbo were playing so soon given the nature of the injuries. Appears he was right on the money.

This is a massive issue. I hope someone in the media takes on our club over this scandal.

Well it appears scandalous and negligent. Just a strong gut feel Larkin is on the money.

Well last time I raised this issue a certain banned gentleman attacked me and told me Dr Larkins didnt have a clue what he was talking about but the gentlemen knew the real story through his inside conenction with the club sports doctor and that of course the clubs doctors are the best and smartest in the world

With this injury list we are missing a third of our walkup starting lineup.
