Different scenario. Horse racing would be a non-entity without people betting on itLife Long Saint wrote:Why is it that everyone is up in arms about sports betting odds and no one cares that when channel 7/9 show the horse races that odds are shoved down our throat then? They even show comparisons between bookmaker odds and the tote odds. So potentially the only sponsor that we could attract within an unsavoury period, is even thinking we're not worth the brand risk.
It's concerning.

Maybe it was an ultimatum. "He doesn't play in a jumper with our name on it, or we walk." You are right though, this should placate them.

Another correct statement.markp wrote:Would be concerning if it was happening... which there's absolutely no evidence of.

It'd be pretty reprehensible if they withdrew over something the club could have no reasonable control of. It's Centrebet though. There's a decent chance they're going to be forced out of sponsorship altogether and may be trying to spin something in their favour.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

I am not talking about the viability of the sport without gambling.stevie wrote:Different scenario. I am talking about the information about betting odds on the contest during its coverage. This is not about Sky Racing or the other one but on free to air, commercial TV.
The Melbourne Spring Carnival is as big as it gets. Everyone stops to watch the cup and when we do, we're bombarded with betting information.
If it is OK for horse racing then it should be OK for other sports.
There are a great many sports that wouldn't be as good as they are without the money from gambling.

I took what he said to mean that betting is the sport in horse racing, without it horse racing doesn't exist.stevie wrote:Life Long Saint wrote:I am not talking about the viability of the sport without gambling.mr six o'clock wrote: Different scenario. Pretty sure the horses don't care if they've been bet on or not.maverick wrote:I took what he said to mean that betting is the sport in horse racing, without it horse racing doesn't exist.stevie wrote:Life Long Saint wrote:I am not talking about the viability of the sport without gambling.
