Wright's first 5 - 10m out of clearances from a contest were great. He gave himself space and time to make his next decision.

Thought he was very good, very positive imo, can't wait to see Ross play a few games here & there.
Re: Nathan Wright-Rising Star? !!
Very true. It's exactly what stood out from Dal in his first year or two. He'd just have the composure and smarts to find a metre or two, rather than panicking.SainterK wrote:I love this kids composure.
I know I go on about it, but it's such an important quality in a footy player.
Re: Nathan Wright-Rising Star? !!
He's a straight ahead, hard edged running player. Have been a fan since day one. We haven't seen it yet in his brief AFL career but he is also VERY strong overhead.

I know its only day 1, but his looking more and more like a steal at pick 24, so thumbs up to Elshaug and crew.savatage wrote:He's a straight ahead, hard edged running player. Have been a fan since day one. We haven't seen it yet in his brief AFL career but he is also VERY strong overhead.

very nice.
i always thought it would be ridiculously cool to learn the sax or trumpet.
but one instrument grabbed my attention the most (while on the subject of jazz):

Gerard was saying he was highly saught after as a 17 year old and expected to go top 10 but then something changed? He kept referring to fault gartlett as well in the same conversation / remarks, anyone else pick up on that?

Something like Garlett dropped out and Wright was the one which replaced him.MC Gusto wrote:Gerard was saying he was highly saught after as a 17 year old and expected to go top 10 but then something changed? But why would Wright have been so sought after is he just snuck into the squad at someone elses expense? Hmm.

Ollie has already been nominated in round 1, stating the obvious but you cant get nominated twice.MCG-Unit wrote:Great debut by Wright - hope he gets a Rising Star Nom. That said, I reckon Ollie Wines will be very hard to beat this round.
Wines
Wright, Mayes
Re: Nathan Wright-Rising Star? !!
Garlett got the boot from the AIS AFL academy which left an opening spot for Wright who then became more of notice.mick13 wrote:Something like Garlett dropped out and Wright was the one which replaced him.MC Gusto wrote:Gerard was saying he was highly saught after as a 17 year old and expected to go top 10 but then something changed? I don't believe Wright was ever considered top 10, more like top 20-30. The Pies were said to pick him however they didn't expect Grundy to slide and chose him instead. Apparently the Hawks were also set to select him with their first pick.
It's good that two clubs (Hawks and Pies) with a good recruitment record of recent were also keen on Wright.

I never believe those stories. I'd rather judge him on how he plays than on rumors that other clubs thought he was OK.Old Mate wrote:Garlett got the boot from the AIS AFL academy which left an opening spot for Wright who then became more of notice.mick13 wrote:Something like Garlett dropped out and Wright was the one which replaced him.MC Gusto wrote:Gerard was saying he was highly saught after as a 17 year old and expected to go top 10 but then something changed? Re: Nathan Wright-Rising Star? !!
Garlett being kicked out of the AIS AFL academy isn't a rumour, it's fact.
There are a lot of draft experts out there, so even know phantom/mock drafts are ones opinion, they can still be quite credible. Wright being a pick around 20-30 was a common trend.
The rumour about Wright being chased by the Hawks was telecasted on Fox recently. I think it was Gerard Heally who mentioned it. I'd call his judgement credible being in footy circles even if only a rumour. I can't recall where I heard the Pies were keen on him but worth mentioning
Anyway, some may find those comments interesting even if they are just rumours.
