If big mac finishes top 5 in our b&f then we have issuesBigMart wrote:I think you'll find Ben will finish Top 5 in the B&F this year....
Big call, but I think he is very good footballer..... Having said that, he'll need to make up for a poor one last week.
A 3/10 game
Re: What does Big Mac actually do?
Why
I'd suggest if he does.... We are looking better.... Going fwd
If he doesn't we have real issues....
If our top 5 read Hayes, Montagna, Dal, Roo, Dempster.....new are in serious trouble in the next few year

A ruckmen that does not win ruck contests but takes marks in defence means our mids are very poor and the opposition will be pumping the ball into our backline on a continuous basis.

Big tank, great contested mark, keeps his cool in traffic, average tap ruckman. His work around the ground is usually very good. The biggest issue is at centre bounces, where his lack of spring works against him.
He'll never be a superstar, but he's an honest, hard working player. Remember, at 24 Darren Jolly was given the heave-ho by Melbourne after displaying the same type of form that McEvoy is now. I'm confident he's got another 20% improvement in him.

Melbourne gave Jolly the heave- ho for pick 15 in the 2004 draft and Melbourne still had Jeff White. So thats not what I call the heave-ho but anyway.
The 20% improvement in Big mac will be in what area ???. It wont be spring or leaving the ground.
'he will be no superstar but his honest and hard working' = Yes
Jones, Blake and Geary are honest and hard working. Will they feature in the top 5 in the B&F as well???

Re: What does Big Mac actually do?
The guy is simply too slow in his movement and has no awareness above his head in ruck contests. As stated when you are relying on size on strength you need to be able to out muscle your opponent which he struggles with also. Perhaps if he started showing some aggression he might get his opponents respecting him a bit more.
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

When will he improve???BigMart wrote:That's my point
He'll get stronger, hence improve...
This year, next year?? year after??
I feel that what we see with Big Mac is what we well get, with little to no more improvement.
There arent many ruckmen that I see him bettering any time soon.

hitouts must equate to "advantage" to "clearances"The Redeemer wrote:So what is the point of a ruck then?
if I can read into your McEvoy hate, what you really want is a Nic Nat who gets the tap, roves his own ball and then kicks the goal
I just whacked the GCS game on, Hickey had the first two taps which equalled two centre clearances to the suns & 13 ponts
Ben went into the center for the third re-start and we got our first center clearance ( till milne found a suns player for the turnover)
to be honest after the suns game I am more surprised Ray has escaped any criticism
his disposal turnovers were inexcusable

Hate is too strong a word and i don't have a player on the list I hate since Polo and McQ buggered off.sunsaint wrote:hitouts must equate to "advantage" to "clearances"The Redeemer wrote:So what is the point of a ruck then?

That being said, maybe I want too much out of my man?

Back to the original post/question;
Big Mac, or Ben McEvoy plays football for St Kilda Football Club. He wears #5 and is a ruckman !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
