Settle pettles!

Even if we lose 25 for Brown we still have a good pick in 26.

So we land Hickey, Lee and Brown and another reasonable prospect at 26.

I'm happy with that.

Cripps is not much good. He's worth pick 60ish IMO.

Brown needs to come out and say that if a trade doesn't get done, he'll walk to us next year after his contract ends.

From what I hear, his management have made such threats but the Eagles believe they could convince him to stay.

Unfortunately because he is unsigned and going back to WA regardless, Cripps is worth nothing on the trade table. He's the steak knives. He might be worth something decent as a player, but his trade value is diddly squat.

What I'm hearing tells me that it's getting close, that the Eagles are now willing to deal.

Have West Coast forgotten that there's a bit of give and take in a negotiation process?

We are giving up a lot more than that. It is overs and we should place a line in the sand, move on and get him for nothing next year
Cripps is now worth zero to us. He will never play for St Kilda again. Naive to think we can get more than a very late pick for him.

West Coast knows St Kilda is desperate for someone like Brown and are confident they can get Cripps for nothing in the pre season draft.

If West Coast wont come to the party on Brown we should take their pick 41 for Cripps and then tell them we will screw them back next year by taking Brown for next to nothing.
West Coast are behaving unconscionably like Collingwood did with Ball.
If Cripps walks to West Coast his name will be spelt with an "A" instead of an "I"

I'm not sure Brown is the prize he's being made out to be. Six seasons, a lot of time lost to injury, an inability to hold a spot despite being tried in different roles at both ends of the ground. If we can potentially get him for nothing next year, I don't see what's wrong with trying a stop-gap solution for a year.

I'd have no problem with us picking up a mature aged defender from one of the b-tier leagues at the end of the draft or even going in with the same back six we had this year. The only talls that really got away from us are the elite ones and I'm not sure that Brown will make the difference there. He's not his brother.

Surely we can shuffle the deck chairs for one more year ie fisher, sipposs, dunnel, gwilt, mcevoy . They are screwing us on cripps or picks if this is true. Wait one more year and the tables will turn. Where are our gun midfielders gonna come from losing these quality picks.

You make the mistake of thinking West Coast cares for their players.
We are talking about the club that cared so much for their players that they stuck Ben Cousins under the mentorship of the drug scum Chris Mainwaring.

Gun midfielders come from single digit draft picks, all those draft picks are at or heading to Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney or perennial losers who no-one wants to play for like the Melbourne, Bulldogs, Richmond or Port Adelaide.

I can understand WCE wanting to keep Brown but if they didnt want to trade him why entertain the discussions at all?

There will be other options Saints don't place all our future on achieving this. Keep picks 25 & 26 draft two young KPP and pluck a state league player like Joel Tippet or Sam Pleming with a later pick. Cripps can go to the draft just to let them know they haven't been reasonable & we can all hope Freo will snaffle him!

Will save significant amounts on salary and the club can reward others players !

Bottom line is that we have actively sought particular players in this draft (Hickey, Brown, Caddy)

NOONE has sought out a Saints player(s) with anywhere near the same amount of interest (BJ in FA doesnt count)

Net result is that were more than likely going to be overs when the dust settles (unless by some remarkable fluke Melbourne offer us a 2nd Round pick and one of their good kids for Farren Ray)

It is not going to be an equal trade as Cripps is not contracted....but Brown is.
That is the reality of the situation.

Don't underestimate how highly his brother Nathan rates Watters and Maxie Hudghton ... I reckon they see Brown as the perfect ready-made player who can improve with some more regular game time and coaching. Has more genuine upside that just about anyone available IMO.
Good call, are they perfectly identical twins? Maybe we can strike a deal to play Nathan if Mitch gets injured?

Ok, back to serious Ick, we have pretty much said that Cripps can walk to the draft - which I believe he will. So counting Cripps as zero, we are just giving up 25 for Brown. Makes it easier for me to justify!

why deal with WC on a key back we could have got Mitch Brown (geelong) and iam sure there were some other good backs with other teams we could have dealt with.

I think we are going to get screwed on this one, so walk away and ask for draft pick for cripps.Wanting a Key back we had tunnel vision i think we should be better at identifying talent in other clubs and not just stick to the one idear.

Why do I keep repeating that players should never run out of contract.
They should be re-signed before the end of the trade period the year before or be sold immediately.
The alternative is the risk that they walk into the pre season draft and are lost for nothing.

If Cripps were still under contract he could still be traded and the club get full value in the trade.

Hooker is not as good as Brown, we will lose Cripps for nothing so basically it is 25 for Brown.

Not overs at all.
Brown was drafted in 2006..how many games has he played?
3 key position players ahead of him at westcoast and you think its not overs

Browns brother was more highly rated and most so called experts think he's just a player.

I agree hooker no star but is Brown..we're essentially giving up late 1st round (cripps) and early 2nd round for him

Lucky we locked Gram and Kos away before anyone else got them. Seriously it's a gamble that can backfire. Staying competitive and offering reasonable compensation and having a focussed goal help more than anything.
