Here are my three reasons;

(1) having to log in is a huge deterrent to get new posters.

(2) Three quote rule and ignore list reduces discussion. Mostly for the good but also can be bad.

(3) Emergence of Twitter is killing forums all round, as it has a massive reach that forums have never and will never achieve.

Maybe Joffa has a valid point - maybe I'm delusional in suggesting there was a time that this forum was robust with a greater variety of opinion than now? I don't know. Anectdotally it seems to me we have fewer posting and threads updated less.

Regardless, what has been refreshing already in this little thread has been the fresh voices of posters many wouldn't have known existed. I hope they stay.

As a long time reader but only post once in a while (although might not be worthwhile), I enjoy reading the opinions of various supporters, it makes me laugh, it sometimes makes me mad, sometimes it makes me wanna cry, and sometimes I want to throw my hands up and say r u 4 real, but I try to hold my emotions before I actually type, unlike others, but that's what makes it interesting... Anyway looking forward to some more interesting reading from everyone both newbies and the regulars.

Nice post StKell. The counting to ten before posting thing is a good idea when faced with some of the stirrers on here.

There seems to be some very angry posters on here at times. (I know, coz it takes one to know one.) Some of whom don't take the deep breathe before posting. One in particular (no names or pack drill required, that's not the point) posts very strongly and thoroughly researched social justice opinions that I always seem to agree with. But then undermines the message of all this wonderful writing by getting overly personal. IMO those holding an opposing belief are alienated by the accompanying insults, and hence are very unlikely to rethink their viewpoints.

I would humbly suggest that 'you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.'

However, just so that all the rough and tumble isn't santised out, people can still go in hard without over the top insults or responses. A great current example for mine of how to do this is True Believer tangling with Nymeria and Grumpy One over on the Genreral Forum thread Re: the truth....and a good read viewtopic.php?f=2&t=77439&start=25#p1252174

Well, I'm enjoying that one...

Others I'd put on the pedestal would include Sainter K, StBrat, the good Doctor and Clarky - who always seem to take it with (at least outward) good humour when attacked. Onya girls and guys for that I reckon.
